I wandered into a 375 Ruger in a Savage 116 Alaskan. I figured I'd snag a box of factory stuff just to get it sighted in and whatnot...'cept nobody sells the ammo locally. They do, however, have brass and a few bullet options. I've got the right powders (eg H4350, Varget, H100V) but I'm not sure what bullet to run with for general game. I snagged a box of 235 TSX from Sportsmans because they were on clearance for 29 bucks and a box of Hornady brass. They had a few other options like Sierra 250 GK, Nosler 260 Accubond, as well as a few 300 grain options.

What bullets do you folks like to run in your 375 HH or Rugers?

Do these Speers have a canelure? None of the product descriptions mention it and they are not present in the photos on Midway.

I've had excellent results with Barnes TSX 270 grain bullets in a 375 H&H Magnum handgun and in a 378 Weatherby Magnum. I would definitely give the 235 grain TSX bullets a try.

The speer 270s are what im currently using in handloads. I have some .260ABs
Im running RL-17 behind the speers, to drive them to about 2800 from my 23" tube, at that speed they are explosive. Tho you still get a couple of feet of penetration on light bone and tissue (shot an axis in the butt and pulled fragments out of the chest cavity)
I havent tried the ABs yet, the speers will literally stack shots and are exceptionally lethal on what i shoot so have not really worked with the ABs yet.
Shoot me a PM with your address and ill send you some of each to try.

Ive also got some 250gr GMX factory loads, which clock a similar speed to my handloads and shoot to the same poi out to 390ish yds that ive shot.

I'm working on loading up some ammo for the rifle but I'm unsure about the crimp. I took the die body down the the top of the case neck and then gave it another quarter turn and instinct tells me this is not enough crimp. Should the crimp be visibly noticeable al a 44 Mag or should it be nearly invisible like 9mm?

I'm going to go out on a limb and wager that the case on the left has too much crimp...

Getting that to headspace correctly is going to be an uphill struggle.

I'd do some testing. The heavier bullets with the abrupt recoil is more prone to pull bullets than lighter ones. Nor do you want the bullets in the magazine get bounced around and pushed deeper. At the risk of offending someone, I'd suggest this sounds like a job for a LEE factory crimp die.

Haha, no kidding. Right now I've it set up to apply just enough taper as to not set back the shoulder. Hopefully that is sufficient but I do have a Lee FCD on the way, I don't know why some people hate on them so much.

I don't crimp any of my rounds, and haven't seen any movement. A few of my speers have been turned into jackted flat points by slamming into the front of the magazine.

Well, so far so good had just one that wouldn't chamber. Using the Speer data and Varget I at least got sighted in before the snow completely erased my target from view. The first group of 4 with 76gr at 100 yards was about 6" low and 1" left, adjusted and fired five more at that charge. Then 4 at 76.5 before the weather got too bad to bother shooting any more. One shot from each string printed either high or low measuring 1.5" or less per string but should still be sufficient for what I'll be using it for. Hopefully the weather clears and I can finish following out the load map and come to a clear determination on which load to use.
