Looking for some AK gurus to point me in the right direction. Just picked up a used CAI MISR 10 that looks like it was picked up off the battlefield after being ran over by a tank. Went to test fire and racked the slide back and pulled the trigger and "click". Gun FTF first round. Racked slide again, "click". Same thing, won't manually feed. Re-inserted mag several times, finally got a round in the chamber. Fired gun and had a FTE/FTF. Tried another mag and same thing. Multiple FTF/FTE. GUN DID finally eject properly with no mag inserted when fired. Any suggestions?

With a round chambered and you triggerd it and it failed to fire?
What is your firing pin protrusion?
In fact what does the headspace check as?
Possible bolt group problem?
Possible excessive headspace?

From another thread on this forum.
After the Russians pulled out of Egypt they left the machinery behind. With it they left some parts and a few skilled Egyptian technicians. They attempted to continue their success by building the Maadi MISR-SA. These guns were very hit or miss but could be made into excellent rifles with a little patience. They are generally regarded at about the same level as a current production WASR and suffered many of the same problems that plagued the early WASR's.
These guns were imported by a few companies including Century.
Later, once the parts dried up the Egyptian manufacturer shipped Maadi Parts kits in various forms to Century. Century then used Chinese parts to finish these rifles. What resulted was the Maadi MISR-10. These are generally thought of as the bottom of the barrel in "foreign parts" AKs.
The front trunion and barrels were ill fitting and many of these guns could never be made to fire with any degree of reliability.
The receivers were slant cut and appeared to be cut an random angles by hand. I would stay far away from any gun with MISR-10 printed on it.

When a round is chambered, it will fire as it should. FTF means failure to feed, FTE means failure to eject. When I chambered a round and then removed the mag, it fired as it should and it actually ejected the spent round. I took the cover off and watched the bolt carrier while working the slide. The bolt would continuously skim over the top of the round in the mag and not feed it into the chamber. Tried this with 4 different mags. Also when trying to cycle the rounds by hand it would not eject at all.

It sounds like the dimension's are off.
The magazine is locking in too low.
It might be great if you had another AK to get measurements off of.

I have a WASR, it's brand new unfired since I bought it 10 years ago. I though about swapping bolts but I don't know if you can swap Maadi and Romanian parts. The Maadi looks as though is has fired 10,000 rds. It must have ran like a champ.at some point.

Might be the bullet guide is broken or missing, sometimes that will cause FTFs also could be a single stack bolt with a double stack mag can FTFs and FTEs.

Don't go swapping bolts, the bolts are head spaced to the rifle. Your magazine sounds too low in the back, is there front to back slop while locked in? Try holding backwards pressure on the mag while shooting. If there is a lot of front to back play in the mag fit, your mag catch will need replacing.

Hardly any slop front to back, some mags a little but not enough worry about. I would only swap bolts to see if it would feed from mag, I wouldn't fire it.

Pics of the bolt would be helpful. The area where the rear mag lug contacts may need to be filed down, if the bolt is over riding the magazine, and a new mag catch fitted. That measurement is pretty important when riveting the trigger guard on with the shims.

Found out the receiver is toast/worn completely out, plus junk parts installed. So I was basically sold a no working pile of crap. In the process now of trying to get my money back.

The Bean: That's a shame. You might also check AKfiles in case you consider buying another AK clone.

And watch YouTube "AKOU" to observe guns tested by "Rob Ski"--many to 3,500 or 5,000 rds.( durability isn't tested when directly from a Box)--where the Best have cold hammer-forged barrels, milspec quality trunnions, bolt carriers etc.
This channel has saved countless people grief and prevented financial losses. InterOrdnance's AK production stopped...possibly because of his and others' Youtube channels and reviews.

Another MISR, the MISR 90, might be the infamous "product" where headspace was checked by a domestic Century contract firm, and then a second, Different barrel was inserted into many of the trunnions--but no more headspace checks performed....on these MISR 90s !
My Maadi, luckily, is the A.R.M.

DustyGmt: Learning which AK types to avoid requires a good bit of reading.

Thanks for your info. I believe I will at least get a double stack bolt and a new ejector. The gun just has a certain look that I fell in love with, I'm gonna bite the bullet and get it running before I make a decision to keep or sell.
