Do you name your guns?

I have 6 brothers and 1 sister and I have 7 G21's, and all named after my family members. The reason was that as time and $money permitted, I would make different changes to the pistols, and it was easier to remember the name and I would know what configuration of the pistol(being all G21 Gen4's). Debra and Donny have the smoothest triggers-Ha.

My hunting rifle is called "Big Stick", as in, "Speak softly, and carry a..."
My EDC is called American Express, as in, "Never leave home without it."
My defensive rifle is called "Vera".
Other ones get named and renamed on a whim, but these stay.

My dad called his van Chitty, my mechanic friend calls his Buick Roadmaster Big Red. Never met anyone that named their guns.

My great grandpa had until his mid 90s what I think was a Colt Woodsman (or at least a .22 semi auto that look similar), that he called "The Equalizer". He'd say, "I'm old, but this'll make things equal".
I ended up inheriting one of his hunting rifles. He passed in 2013, 6 months from his 100th birthday. His name was William and everyone called him "Bill". Apparently, he was quite a wild guy in his youth. I am strongly considering calling the hunting rifle I got of his "Wild Bill". It feels like it would fit, but people would probably think I'm talking about Hickok...

I have way too many to name. But i did name a few. A colt 1911 named Mr blasty. My CCW glock is called sarah. sarah mcGLOCKing.

I've got a SAA named "ol' Lucky" and Dad's '06 is "ol meat on the table". Some have "nicknames" like "the fifty dollar 22" (beat up Brno #2), "the Walnut Gun" (Henry 22WMR I bought using money from the sale of black walnut logs), and "the Bird Gun" (BRNO zp49 SLE). Most are just called what they are. Like "the .270", or "the Model 12". I don't think it's a bad thing to give names to guns, especially those you like. I can say, that I've never named a vehicle, with the exception of one 1949 Farmall Cub which I quickly dubbed "the little red b@stard" You all can figure out why I named it that.

I've never named a firearm. The only inanimate object I own that has a name is a 1982 Harley FLTC.

Back in my wilder days, I rode stripped down, chopped, hopped up Harleys. Most had no back seat, some had a P-pad. No extras, like turn signals or gauges. The horsepower/weight ratios were crazy.

Then I got the FLTC, an 80 inch 5-spd Shovel. Full-dress: bags, windshield, foot boards, and a radio.

It was immediately named Baby Huey.

I have also named a few of my firearms. I usually try to give them a name that is fitting for the gun itself.

For example, I have a beautiful Ruger .44 Magnum that is so faithful and strong it reminds of a family of raptors we have down in the woods so I named it "Super Redhawk".

I picture my short version 1911 as being able to take charge when the going gets rough, so I call it my "Combat Commander".

I have another Ruger, this one in .45 Colt. I picture a horseman riding off into the sunset on the Pampas with one of them holstered at his side. With that in mind, I decided to call it "El Vaquero".

The last one that I've named is an old Ithaca Model 37 shotgun. It shoots very well, but is on the light side, so I named it my "Featherlight".

That's about it, all the other firearms usually just go by their model number or caliber.

;)

I have a friend that owns a Home Defense Shotgun he named "Cheney".

Why? Does he only use it on lawyers?

I am reminded of the Luke Askew line from Culpepper Cattle Company when the kid asks his horse's name, "I never give a name to something I might have to eat."

That said, a few have nicknames like Ol' Reliable (a worn looking Kimber), Willie (a Sharpes 45-70 , reference to Willie Dixon's 1538 yard shot at the second Battle of Adobe Walls) and Pops (my dad's 30-30).

And many are named by the maker; pedersoli "Quigley", CMMG "Banshee" etc

EDIT And I have a Steyr that I want to put a Swarovski on, which will make it "the Austrian"

I name some of mine. Yes, it's weird; oh well. For instance, I have a Colt Python I call "Monty", a 629 I call "Sledge Hammer", two 29-2's called "Lucky Punk" and "Day Maker", a 625 Mountain Gun called "War Hammer", and a Model 19 called "Dad's Gun". I don't seem to name any of my automatics, shotguns, or rifles, although I am considering naming my Finnish M39 "Sisu".

I was going to say, emphatically: "No".

But on further reflection, I have two Garands; a Springfield and an IHC.
To differentiate them, I call the IHC "The Cornbinder" and the Springfield "The Springfield". They are quite different for those interested in minutia. Otherwise, not so much.
