New glock coming

So disappointed. Glock has dropped the ball big time.
(And I am a big Glock fan. But lately, they're making it easy for me to join the CZ fan club.)

I'm disturbed about the ten round capacity too. It's like they are agreeing with the anti gun crowd that is "standard" for magazine capacity for a pistol that size.

Not only is this news not exciting...it's actually leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

So this is what the "Second Coming" was all about? I was waiting for Angels to sound trumpets, the earth to fill with lightening, and nothing but a 22cal? That's it? Lol, Man I love Marketing and the internet. A 22.cal that other manufacturers have been putting out for decades. Be interested to see what this second coming of a firearm 22.cal. price tag is. I bet Ruger SR 22 cal sales will soar and so will the New Taurus and even Keltec.

I doubt that is it. GLOCK has made more 30+ round mags than any other pistol manufacturer by far. And likely more 15+ than anyone except maybe magpul. Plus its incredibly easy to limit the capacity of a gun design with nothing more than a stick if needed after some new laws, unlike going up in capacity. It also lacks a Magazine disconnect and it has to be fired to be disassembled so I'm guessing gun control laws wasnt their reasonings. I'd guess with the barrel and slide design that they couldn't get 100 percent reliability. I'm going to have to find one just to see what's going on with that non-fixed barrel design. Now I'm curious

Quick Bonus Question.

Other than the beretta tip up barrels, what 22lr handguns dont have a fixed barrel

The price is $399, so street will be mid 300s. The market is as a trainer for the 19s. Other companies have done the same. Wait for the sales figures to see if your market insights mirror your opinion.

I get the concept of a trainer that handles similarly to ones carry gun, but with 9mm prices being what they are, why would I train with a 22lr version that has next to zero recoil. Seems like a training program that is lacking to me.

So that leaves the 22 fun factor, and I do not see this new Glock ever approaching the fun factor of my Rugers or old S&W Masterpiece.

I hope Glock sells a load of these, but I see nothing to inspire me to put one in my safe.

When I saw the second coming ads, with the people in Backpacks, and someone mentioned 22.cal. I thought OK, a really nice small 22.cal. Something different, something you can actually put in a backpack, not something the size and length of a Hulky G19. So what is this 22.cal suppose to do that others cannot. Other than be Perfect?

Nice! I don't consider the Glock 44 to be "legendary" but that is marketing, kind of like all the "game changer" Glock 19 killers that were not.

IMO it makes sense for Glock to make a 22 size training pistol almost identical in size to the Glock 19, one of the best selling handguns in the world that also dominates in sales to agencies. Bonus that it also uses the extra back straps.

While not my choice, if the Glock 44 shows to be as reliable as Glock claims it could be a good CCW choice for those who simply can not shoot larger center fire caliber pistols well and that would also mean there are tons of holsters available for it already.

Glock is going to sell boatloads of these and a LOT of younger and new shooters who start out on the Glock 44 will graduate to the Glock 19 or other Glocks. I can't wait to check one out and try it out. I expect my range will have one for rent shortly.

I never felt the need for a 22lr training pistol, but if I did, it would be to focus solely on draws and trigger discipline. In that case I'd want it to be as close to my CCW as possible. For those carrying a G19/23/32 the G44 makes sense as a training option. If it cycles as reliably as a G19 that would be an accomplishment.
I don't get the trainer aspect of it. If you were running a class for new shooters who were mandated to carry a G19, etc, it might make some long-term sense. It also makes temporary sense if you own a G19 or the like as a home defense gun, and you wanted to start your wife and kids out on it. With that said and after a range trip or two, what's the point? IMHO, they need to start training with the firearm that they actually are going to handle and shoot with at that point. I would have preferred a 22lr Glock pistol that was tailored towards plinking and an alternative to Walther's, S&W's, Taurus', Kel Tec's, and Ruger's offerings instead of this...

The marketing was for sure over done, and they definitely were cashing in on their popularity with it. That being said, it seems to be a good training option for those that carry a glock. The trigger is being reported as the same trigger in the gen5 guns, so thats a plus to anyone that carries any size glock. It's 14 ounces with the mag, so its lighter than a J-frame. I have to say though, I did call it earlier in the thread when I mentioned to look for what was hot years ago. In this case I would refer back to when the M&P 22 came out and it was well received.

I was really hoping for one of the following:

-Pistol caliber carbine
-A P365/Hellcat competitor
-Gen5 variants of non-9mm caliber models

A .22LR that looks to be cobbled together (see bottom of slide) when we have good .22 options out there (Ruger Mk4, Ruger SR22, Buckmark, Taurus, M&P22, Walther P22) doesn’t do much for me, especially at a $399 MSRP. That said, I hope it’s a good gun and I’m always glad to see additional competition. It’s just nothing revolutionary or worth the hype and anticipation in my opinion.

Love Glock.
Hate 22LR. Shooting it is the most soulless, pointless excercise imaginable (for me). Hard pass.

Everyone else, enjoy!

Because .22 is still 1/3 the price of even the best 9mm deals out there?

Still, I agree. If I'm not training with real ammo I might as well just work on dry fire for free.

I don't have one myself but for about $250 the option was already there to convert a G19 into a 22lr with an Advantage Arms kit. In other words, this is an answer to an already solved problem or non existent problem. Meh.

Actually I am a huge fan of 22.cals for training and actually am surprised Glock did not have this out years ago. That part I can understand. I guess for Glock fans this is a nice, long awaited addition. For others, nothing.

My thoughts as well. As the guy in the TFB video says, glock must be tired of other companies cashing in on their product. The price point isn't too far off from the conversion kits you can get for glocks. Maybe in 10 more years we will get a hellcat/p365 competitor or a PCC.

I for one, would much prefer to shell out another $75-$100 for a full dedicated glock 22lr with better reliability than the conversion kits. If you watch any of the videos, they are claiming months of testing with various ammo on the pistol already. testing of over 10k rounds in a single pistol.

@GunnyUSMC Where is the forums biggest fanboy when you need him? Waiting for the cheerleading to commence. Everyone wants a PCC or a P365/Hellcat alternative, and the introduce a 22lr that's likely to be $500.
LOL!! That’s funny.
I’m a bigger fan of the M&P then the Glock.
I also own more different brands of guns than most here on the forum. One should never limit themselves to a name brand.
I had talked with several people that had been to the Glock factory in the last two years and they had no clue that Glock was coming out with a 22lr.
But to tell the truth, no matter what Glock put out, someone was going to cry.
Did they go overboard on the hype? Sure, just about like everyone else these days. Did it work? Hell yes. It got all of y’all talking about it and this topic is already at 9 pages.
Now will I buy one? Not sure. I already have a 22 conversation on a 17 size Polymer 80 frame. Plus I want to get a FDE M2.0 M&P first.
Now I’m just going to finish shooting this batch of Evidence guns I have on my desk so that I can get out of the office on time today.
I’ll check back later to see how y’all are coping with, as Jeb says, The second coming.
