C&L Niceee looking gun!

I have come to the conclusion that I'm out of luck here in Ca. I would be happy with the RIA if it had some flexibility with the sights I'm half blind and the sights just won't cut the mustard.

I have two options find something here in Ca. on the secondhand market or modify a 1911 9mm platform to run 38 super.

So Cocked & Locked how much did you pay/have invested in that nickle plated 38 Super?

Sorry for the delay.

FYI silvermane_1 Looking at the receipt right now. Bought the shiny RIA Super .38 NIB on 02/21/2006 for $373.83. At he same time bought four 50 round boxes of Fiocchi 38 Super 129 grain FMJ ammo for $11.99 per box. Plus NC State sales tax of course.

It keeps my Springfield Armory factory nickel plated Super 38 company.

How was that ammo?

I use it and I’m very pleased with it. Performs well, shoots clean, and while others have had issues with Fiocchi brass (off center flash holes in particular), I have found it very reloadable. Carolina Munitions often has it on special @ $270/1000 rounds (shipping not that cheap though...)

I use Fiocchi too in my .38 Super Commander. It's good ammo: clean shooting and reliable with no problems to report. Probably paid around $11 or $12 for 50 rounds last time I bought it at a gun show awhile back.

Believe it or not that is a Hunter brand holster...55M is stamped on the back. I think that is Hunter's designation for any full size 1911 holster.

Most Hunter holster (as we all know) are nice leather but very plain and ordinary.

Thanks for the answers, For good or bad, I have this reflex (for want of a better word) that Fiocchi is one of those brands one is forced to use for obscure European calibers, rather than an ammunition of reasonable quality in "everyday" calibers.
My bias.

I won a RIA in .38 Super several years ago. I don't shoot it much, but that's me and my opinion about .38 Super, nothing to do with the gun.

Do you have a specific question?

I do nat have any experience with an RIA 38 Super M1911, but I have several 38 Supers made by Colt and Kimber and all function well.

In general, I feel it is easy to make an M1911 work well with 38 Super, so, I'd supect the RIA M1911 will perform well with at least 130 FMJ ammunition. A little TLC ,may be needed but I really doubt it.

Just a note, I'm a fan of 38 Super/M1911 platform so i ,may be a bit biased.

Some years back, I kind of had my sights set on one of those Colt Governments in .38 Super with the highly polished stainless steel. It had been quite some time since I had a .38 Super and I thought that the highly polished model could be just the ticket for me! There was a dealer at the local gun show who had two new Colts in .38 Super. They had a Custom Government Model and a Lightweight Commander. The Custom Model was all bright and shiny and with a set of faux ivory grips (with Colt Medallions of course), it would have gone great with my Colt Combat Commander with it's bright nickel finish. I also thought about the Commander too as I liked the feel and balance of the slightly shorter and lighter gun. But when I finally had enough money saved up for it and got to the next show, it was gone!

And in a way I'm glad it was sold because I love the lighter weight and shorter slide of the Commander as it handles very nicely and it's easy and comfortable to carry. I also would have been so enamored with that bright shiny finish that I would have been very reluctant to take it out and shoot it!

I fondled an RIA in .38super today at the FW Gun Show, other than the flat mainspring housing it felt good in the hand (mind the balance of a 1911 is hugely familiar to me). Dude at the table was super busy, so I never got a chance to see if he had any room in the price (basically the same price as Bud's).
So, still a thought in the back of my head.

You should try some of their 158 gr 357 FMJ ammo. That stuff is pretty warm. In fact I stopped using it because the flash coming from the barrel cylinder gap made me worry that they’d cause flame cutting.
