Now that Walmart ended ammo sales on many calibers......

I have never thought that Walmart has carried a very good selection of ammo. They have always had the low end plinking ammo but you can get that in a lot of different places. Like others I have bought shotgun ammo there and the occasional 22lr but that is really it. Walmart has started turning it's back to middle Americans and I think that will hurt their sales in the long run. I will no longer shop there.

That’s actually a very valid point. I’ve never seen any high-end ammo at Walmart. But I do think they carry what most people in a given area will use.

I try my best to avoid walmart for anything. I hate walmart. (Although sometimes you just can't beat their everyday low prices. Lol) But I'd bet they have sold more 22 ammo, as well as just as many shotguns and 22 rifles as any other company. They also didn't sell 70 dollar bricks during the panics. I order mine by the case online but if they have to stop selling handgun ammo to stay off the radar of the grabbers while pumping millions and millions of rounds of shotgun and rimfire ammo into the market I'm not sure they are entirely anti-2a, just trying to play strategy I believe. For me they are a wasted space and an abomination of pavement in every town but if you lived in places with no option of internet ammo sales? They wont stay open because of me but I dont judge anyone for shopping there since every situation is different. Also If online ammo sales was banned I wonder if walmart would be back into sales because of the margins.

I did stand at the counter in another town For some 15 dollar .40 100 packs this week. They had a ton and I was going to buy 10 boxes of .40 for 150 bucks. After 20 minutes of watching employees walk by me (4 including the store manager many times) I gave up though. So I guess I didn't support them. I fully intended to. Like another poster says, I'm sure they are taking a loss on this ammo selling it and if its turned over to LE it's a tax write off. so maybe you are actually sticking it to "the man" by buying it. I sent my wife by my "local" (45 minutes away) walmart and they had no handgun ammo.

I had a similar experience with some manager types walking right past me standing in front of the ammo case at around 7pm. The one even looked right at me but kept on walking

Ive travel half the east coast pretty regular and I believe they all stock the same stuff. The ones on the coast of my state still stock the cheap federal/winchester etc deer rifle ammo.....even though they cant use anything but a shotgun.

at around 7pm.

I was there around 830 and they dont sell after 9 anyway. And I'm 6 foot 4+ with my shoes on and 200 lbs....and they looked right at me. Still pisses me off though. I should have just flagged someone down but I didnt really want to give them the buisness at that point. 150 bucks per 1k of brass cased .40 ammo is about the cheapest I've seen.

My local walmart has 3 great guys at the gun counter. I've known 2 of them for years. Very helpful and make themselves available

Money will go into pockets of business that don’t try and limit our access to products. Would be even better if you also buy other products elsewhere too. After all it’s clear they don’t need or even want your business.

They carry the best Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays ammo made, and have the best prices. Winchester AA's and Remington STS, Nitro 27, and Nitro Gold. The only brass based hulls still made, and the best to reload as well as best from the factory. They carry a lot of the cheap steel-based target loads, and all of the "high-brass" loads are steel now, but yes, they do have high-end ammo.

They supposedly had 20% of the nations ammo sales, so what do you think will happen now?

A~ other sellers will fill in the void and NOT raise prices to compete with each other?
B~ other sellers WILL raise the prices knowing they are more likely to get the orders now?

C. Free market supply and demand will determine prices and availability.

D. Ammunition availability and prices will respond to political pressures and the perception of anti-gun laws being passed.

E. Folks will ignore the low prices and great availability of ammunition that is on-line and will instead wait until the next panic so they can come onto forums to complain and call those that have stocked up “hoarders.”

D. Anyone who reads the signs in the windows at gas stations remembers 2 packs of Marlboro for less than $4. Today, it is 1 pack for $5.68.

E. In the early 2000s, 7.62x39 was under $60 for 1000 and 7.62N from Hirt, SA and Venezuelan was about $100 for 1000. Anyone who was around remembers.

Judging by cigarettes; I'd say buy now and in quality.

Fact is for many of us the only way to get ammo now is online or at a gun show, excluding local gun stores which unfortunately have always marked up their ammo twice as high as online or sporting good stores.
The ammo I do buy comes from Atwood's or academy

^^^^THIS^^^^

There have been discussions about stockpiling ammunition recently and there were people responding damning all "The hoarders" and talking about how the Ammo Panic was a false shortage and still refusing to stock up.

No matter what I'm positive that you're not ever going to be able to buy ammunition significantly cheaper than you can get it right now. You certainly won't be able to 5 years from now. Ammunition is a durable good that's only going to go up in price.

The only thing I ever purchased at Walmart was 5 gas cans on special sale( same price as Sears for one can) I don't buy factory--I RELOAD--CLOSE TO 50 YEARS NOW.

The little gun shop in that strip mall will have to stop using Walmart as their wholesaler and find another distributer that will sell 5 boxes at a time.

I can tell you the percentage of my money that will go to Walmart for anything at all in the future...0%.

They didn’t get much of my Ammo money before but they did get a lot for other things. I have found that I do not miss them, their products or the hassle it was to shop there.

Their ammo selection was pretty poor anyway. At least at the stores I used to go to.
Where do you live that you have any other options besides WM for most of your shopping? WM and a few chain grocery stores are all we have left around here. I try to patronize the other places as much as I can but WM is the only option other than a long drive for a lot of stuff.

FWIW I’m willing to cut them a tiny bit of slack because they still sell guns and some ammo. It would have been a real easy PR move for corporate to just exit the gun and ammo business altogether. They qualify as Fudds for sure, but that’s not the same as being truly anti 2A.

That's fine and dandy if there is a store close to you, the closest one to me is 150 miles way, while there are seven Walmart within twenty miles away, two being just a couple miles away. Academy says no shipping option on the ammo and if they did they would charge shipping which makes it more expensive than Walmart was. So the fact is factor in shipping prices we all will being paying more now

Definitely true. I posted the Academy 9mm price for all of the unlucky people who are being overtaken by expanding cities and just got a new source for ammo built near them. I would have rather Walmart not taken a knee.

The bright side is ammo is plenty available, and there are many sources online to get it sent to you direct unless you live in a state like California. Don't know what the results of the election will be but for now ammo is available and not priced out of the sky. The election may be favorable who knows but I personally will be stocking up in the next 11 months as funds permit.

Academy does ship ammo. I ordered 900 rounds of ammo from them recently and they shipped it for free.

Any order for $25 or more gets free shipping, so if you can only afford a couple of boxes at a time it's a great option

If it was just stopping certain ammo sales that would be one thing. But the CEO stated Wal Mart will now actively lobby for gun control.

Walmart has been the perfect source for ammo for some people?

Who/what prevented anybody from ordering ammo >>online<< in the past? This is my main source.

When Walmart became a voluntary, Chief Appeaser of the Anti-Gun crowd recently, I stopped going inside any Walmarts and my ammo had only consisted of sporadic bricks of .22.

* There might be a totally unrelated benefit of avoiding Walmart-I never seem to see any people resembling thugs (dressing Or acting as such) shopping at Academy stores near us.
Even though Walmart and the nearest Academy are less than two miles apart, in the same suburb, this general contrast of many people seems to be like going from Memphis out to a small town.

I suspect that the glory days of Walmart are in the rearview mirror. Good or bad, times and tastes change. Maybe we have outgrown the "price is everything" value system that gave rise to the behemoth. Life goes on. Still, every reduction in resources negatively affects our sport.
