The trend of 9mm and 45 ACP auto pistols continues. They're everywhere. I spent 2 hours at Defender Outdoors immersed in the popular genre. Some nice stuff out there but it was kind of depressing. It's rare that you see a 40 S&W in stock. 380s are available in the micro lines but not near as prevalent as the 9s and 45s. I handload so ammo availability for less popular cartridges is never an issue. I miss the days of larger selection.

Two purchases in the last week. One at the local gun show, the second at the local gun shop. I like how the guns fit in my hand. Both are single stacks.

I purchased a Kimber Micro 9, the Shot Show package with lots of extras. Very nice carry gun, very nice package deal.

I purchased a Springfield Mil Spec 45. No frills but a high quality gun at a very good price.

This is a first for me on both cartridges. I thought I should have a pistol for each because in a SHTF scenario ammo is everywhere. So now I've joined the ranks of conformity.

My last two semi-auto handgun purchases were:
- Sig P-938 9mm (my 1st/one/only 9mm)
- SA 1911-A1 .45 ACP (my 1st/one/only 1911)

These were purchased for their platforms, not cartridge chamberings.

Would have been just as happy w/ either in .40, to go with my prime Glock G23.4 pistols.

The .40/180 gr. subsonic is still the round to beat... and few if any do.

Like Garandimal, the 9mm handguns I have were also acquired for their platform/function, and I have no use for any more at this time. The 9mm has its appropriate uses. However, I much prefer the 40S&W and 10mm semi-autos.

I owned 20+ guns before I finally acquired a P08 Luger and found myself, almost by surprise, obliged to add 9mm to my list of calibers. It does have the pleasant side-effect, however, of being a cheap caliber to shoot.

I don't think I will buy dies for the 9mm. Probably just buy bulk. The 45 on the other hand I will definitely roll my own.

If you dont mind my asking, what kinds of handguns were you shooting before this? Revolvers? .22s?

My first was a .357, followed by a .45. I cant remember my first 9mm.....it was either a HiPower or a Beretta M51....whatever it was, there have been many more since then and I still have most of them.

In autos I have micro 9's for pocket carry (have 3) and .45 ACP for full size (have 4). I have one Glock 22 but just never warmed up to the cartridge. Considering a conversion barrel at some point.

If you're thinking about SHTF, you might consider just getting the 9mm dies. Even if you don't really need it because you can load other cartridges, being able to make 9mm ammo, to trade or provide for your group - would be valuable.

Ive always been dubious of the value of reloading equipment for this purpose. Sure, bullets and gunpowder (blackpowder at least) can be homecrafted easily enough, but primers....not so much.

In such a scenario, having a few flintlocks on hand for when the ammo drys up will not be a bad idea. Bows too.

Wow, looks like I'm rebelling....

Having only had 9 and 45 pretty exclusively, I'm looking at 40, 357 SIG, even a 45 GAP just to have something different.

But hey, sometimes mainstream makes sense... There's a reason the Corolla outsells the Mini Cooper or the Dodge Challenger.

So give in, get those common boring guns!!!

It’s funny, I dumped my .45 and my 9mm’s a few years ago. Went with revolvers and lever guns...now it’s 5 years later and I have 3 - 9mm Glocks, a Ruger PC Carbine and another AR.

I just can’t walk away, I guess. :D

Two revolvers (357 and 44 special) and a Taurus Millenium 40 S&W that I lost to a safety recall. None of which I still own. I don't count rimfire in the mix. My favorite is my Beretta 96 in 40 S&W. I also like the wife's S&W 38 snubby.

My first 9mm was a Ruger P89. I had it for 20ish years and it still ranks as the most reliable, least ammo fussy 9mm I ever owned and I've had a bunch. The added bonus was that it was very accurate for me.

It’s a conspiracy perpetuated by ammo companies, get you hooked on 9mm then they can drop other calibers;)

the .45acp thing is just in case old Joe gets elected :(

I switched to 9mm for my EDC a couple of years ago so I’m marching in lockstep.
