Anyone know where to purchase a new brain? I'm pretty sure I'm in need of one.

It was a beautiful morning here for a change and I started loading up to go the range. When I went to get my gate key it wasn't there. I've kept it in the same spot on a chest ever since I joined the gun club years and years ago. When I come home from the range I put it there and there it stays until my next trip or so I though until this morning. I ransacked my jeep and the wife's suv, looked in drawers, range bags, tool boxes, ammo bags, moved furniture, and even my gun safe. Nothing, nada, not there. I can't blame gremlins as I enlisted the help of she who gremlins fear and return what ever they have run off with when she shows up. It's gone so no range trips for me until about two weeks after the new year. That's when they will have the new lock on the gate and I can renew my membership and pay an extra five bucks because I'm mentally impaired and lost my key. Membership renews at the first of the year for everyone so I'm not missing much time but it's still annoying. Maybe I'll put the key on a chain and wear it for a necklace where I can find it. Uh, on second thought, NO, that would be too annoying, maybe stuck in the zipper pocket of my billfold will do the job.

At least your new key is only $5.

I work at a new car dealership. Some of our replacement "smart" keys are $300 EACH......and I get calls every day from folks who have managed to lose one or both of them!:what:

They actually offer key replacement insurance policies up front in the sales department.

I misplaced a Ruger MK2 for over a year, thought it got left at the range. Eventually it turned up in my sock drawer. Im gonna blame the gremlins on that one.

I am guilty too.

One day, I was getting ready to go to work and could not find my car keys. After frantically looking for several minutes, my wife stops and tells me, "Are you looking for keys that are in your hand?" (We had several key rings like for Quads/4x4s, etc.) Yup, I had the car keys in my hand the whole time.

One time, my wife had me look for her "favorite" sunglasses for like 20 minutes and I asked, "BTW, are you looking for the one that's on your head? The look on her face was priceless and we laughed for several minutes.

All the private ranges I've belonged to in the past have already had, or I've convinced them to add, a combination lock as a link in the chain or a realtors key-box for a chainless lock-up situation.
Might try that in the future.

Todd.

We have this at ours...only works if one can remember the combination. o_O

Carried mine on my car/house key ring. If I drove to the club I had the keys. A decade or so ago the club went to magnetic striped cards. Credit card size it’s in my wallet and I can just wave the wallet in front of the gate or door readers

If I had a nickle for every time I either lost a key or locked myself out, I'd be a billionaire.
I set up copies, at point of failure.
The gate key for your club should really be in your vehicle, you're never going to walk there, or use SWMBO's vehicle, right?
A couple other notes on keys, from "Mr. Clumsy" himself:

-Your ignition key should be by itself. Ignition lock cylinders have a way of degrading, from the weight of additional keys on the ring, with your ignition keys. You can avoid this simple breakdown, if you have the ignition key on a solitary keychain, or no keychain at all.

-Duct tape is your friend, for hiding your keys, on a car, or by a door, but your memory isn't.

-Paint the keychain end of your housekey with white or glow in the dark paint.

-You can be "key buddies" with a neighbor, relative, or friend, just be sure they are trustworthy and available, when you need your spare set.

I might suggest a small carbiner/key ring that you can clip onto the range bag that you ALWAYS take to the range. It works for me even with the RFID card we now use. I find that my one range bag that has ears, tools, safety glasses, range rod, etc. is the one I take by default. My story is that my personal memory storage unit is full and I refuse to delete any of the good ones to let more mundane ones in!:p

Technology has yet to advance to being able to teleport a key over the phone.

Todd.

That was a classic keeper.

The last range I belonged to used a combination lock; the combination was 3030. According to a bud who still belongs, after 15 years it is still 3030. :D

We can and do shoot here at the cabin. However, we will join a range about 20 miles away to shoot 200 to 600 meters.
A lot of ranges today want a background check.. I have a CCW permit which doesn't count. Does that make any sense other than nonsense?

lost a uberti colt open top for a few days once. was sure someone had come in and stolen it. found it when i opened a drawer on the t.v. stand. dont know how it got it their, well i guess i do know. . i have three canes because i lost the other two in the house some wheres. then i found the other two. found 5 dollars in my blue jean jacket the other day. that went in the kitty for .22 long rifle ammo. aged moment. every time i go to chemo they ask me my name and birth date. so far i havent forgot them. once in a while i will say the answer in french just to throw them off.

Don't feel bad. I once went on a turkey hunt without a gun. We had taken my truck the evening before to see if we could roost a bird. This was a drive of 65 miles into Missouri. The next morning my buddy said we could take his truck. Drove 65 miles with my gun still in MY truck. No biggie really. If we got on a bird I would call for Bubba. No bird and on the way home Bub said he would by lunch. When we arrived he didn't have his wallet. He had driven 130 miles without his out-of-state hunting license or his driver's license. I didn't have a gun and had to buy lunch. It was a typical hunt for us.

Brother I have to tell you I wouldn't be able to sleep a wink if I "misplaced" my Ruger Mk.II! I mean I would turn my home upside down looking for it and wouldn't stop until I found it. How did you go a year without finding it; that alone would drive me bananas!

And how in the world did it end up in your sock drawer? Thinking about that could make me even crazier!

Don't remind me. Went to the Refuge early this season, went to grab my bow..... Oh, Crap!

My range went to key cards a few years ago. This year there will be a face photo on it also. On an unrelated note, there are cameras everywhere. I know it's to enforce safety and prevent liability but it just feels strange to know I'm being watched from the minute I enter till the minute I leave. I guess that's just a sign of the times.

I once drove 20 miles to a woodlot to cut firewood. After I ran the saw out of gas, I went to fill it up.
You guessed it, didn’t bring any gasoline. Got home with about a third of a truck load of wood.

Nice to know I'm not the only highly intelligent person to constantly misplace things!

Been there, done that from keys to firearms. I frequently "improve" my areas of hidden items and, almost as frequently, then forget that I made said "improvements". I have made up so many 1st aid kits and stored them in various nooks and crannies that I'll re-find them when going to put another one in the same place because I forgot I'd already put one there years before...
