What will be the official "U.S. Space Force" gun?

As I think the Space Force is a bit silly PLEASE do not spend a ton of our tax $$ dreaming up something new. Let them wear the silly blue camo uniforms the Navy finally ditched and either give them the Beretta M9s which are still fine pistols or the new SIG to keep things a little sane.

Given that they are likely to never see an enemy combatant as their "battle space" and locations should keep them far apart I'm not even sure they need a weapon. Sort of like a drone pilot sitting on an air base in Nevada doesn't really need a loaded rifle with them as they do their job.

Something nerf for around the office. Shouldn’t need to arm troops for battle outside our atmosphere, just yet.

As for putting satellites out of commission, seems that they are fairly delicate as many get messed up just by getting hit with space debris, already in orbit.

Has to be a p-90/ FiveseveN combo to look futuristic enough. Im sure the government still has some the Secret service ditched. Lack of gravity could make handling recoil of a 50 cal pretty risky

Unless the space force encounters space bear. Then maybe a wildey.

I agree that it's a bit embarrassing that this isn't a shtf scenario and is a real thing. But then again it's not hard to be embarrassed by the goings on of our government (all sides) at this point anyway.

Not so fast!

I would submit the Callahan Full-Bore Auto-Lock, otherwise known as Vera.

And for a sidearm? This trusty companion.

I wonder what kind of cool Jason Borne type movies will result from SPACE FORCE! Recoil mitigation becomes a real issue in a weightless environment.

The United States of Space. We goin to Mars.

Early cosmonauts had an AKM in their capsules In case they landed in the woods and ran across bears and such.

Firearms don't need an atmosphere to function. The atmosphere merely causes the projectile to slow down. In space a bullet would go a long way without losing energy, only subject to the weak forces of gravity caused by other proximate masses.

I once saw a Swiss rifle with a fold out extended trigger for winter use with mittens. Could do the same for space suits.

Of course the idea of a "space force" conjures images of Dark Helmet,..

I'm thinking high velocity, low weight projectiles to puncture suits and gear without tossing someone into a spin.

Maybe a spring loaded pellet gun with a counterweight style buffer to cancel recoil.

Or that fancy AK74 variant with the crazy muzzle brake... AN94 I think...

View attachment 880170 View attachment 880168 View attachment 880169 My initial thoughts run a few directions. Some are already covered here like Han Solos blaster. Other notable things that come to mind...
An assortment of options from Men in Black

A Star Trek Phaser

The Russian Cosmonaut drilling (adapted to silly English measurements and rounds)

and of course the CIA deer gun.

HAHA, I thought that Deer Gun was some sort of joke but its real!!! I'll take two of those and a Pederson Device please...

It was real and they are exceedingly rare and unknown. I have kicked around the idea of building something similar in shape and function but it would be FAR from being a clone because there just isn’t enough info available... and I would build a 22 or a 32 long just to keep pressure low. Probably 32 long as I already have a good barrel to use.

I'd think low velocity heavy bullets would be best other than recoil. The lack of gravity and such will keep velocity from being lost anyway. Heavy recoil could conjure up memories of major Tom though so I suggested p-90. Plus it looks plenty futuristic.

forward thinking has always been how we've gotten to be great! Let the sarcasm on my thoughts begin...

Forward thinking as far as cyber security, future maintenance of roads and the already short of funds branches of service we have, I'm ok with. But with our debt and the issues on the section of one planet we have, I feel like we could do far better things with our money. Its hard to shoot down free college and Medicare for all or a "living wage" because "you know how much that would cost" when we are willing to fund a "space force" for the stated purpose of "space warfare" as cool as it may sound..... But then again I hated star wars AND star trek.... even when they were fresh.

I don't believe it's needed. And if we were suddenly attacked by something from space I'm guessing that we would have to form a joint effort amongst nations to combat it. Seeing as how we can still botch making airliners in 2019 and they would be traveling light years we would still likely lose. I think it's ludicrous that it's a reality really. But what do I know. I just pay my 50%in taxes and go along with it. Besides that, we have plenty of threats to worry about right here on earth without trying to go somewhere and find more

When Arnold and Jessie and Bill and a squad of well armed men got massacred by a single predator .....I have no high hopes. Lol

And besides that, Elton john told us years ago that "Mars aint the kind of place to raise a kid. In fact it's cold as hell". I for one am content with that.

1. Lack of gravity or gravity doesn't change velocity of the projectile. It changes trajectory.
2. Second, this thread is about specific guns and not ranting about general issues. If you don't want to play, don't contribute to the thread. Such has been deleted.

The high velocity/small caliber idea sounds great on first blush, but if combat inside a vessel is at all possible I think going the opposite direction makes a lot more sense. You want to puncture humans, but not the material the ship is made of. A 5.7x28 round which is going fast enough to do the job will Swiss cheese your ship if you miss, and maybe even if you don't.

Something like a .38S&W soft lead bullet will do the job, while having much less chance of passing through structural materials or glass.

Wade, your comments were general discussions of world issues and not the gun issue. How do you fail to see that? Second, if you have a problem with a deletion, take it to PM as is our custom. Stay on topic.
