Opened the mailbox today and along with a couple of late Christmas cards... Mercifully, NO bills, was a wonderful 2-page *Letter* from the S&W Historical Foundation's Mr Jinks with this gem at the end of the second page.

Of course, as with all firearms, I am always suspicious of markings implying a governmental affiliation so when I got this 41 with the "U.S." stamp - I was of course cautiously optimistic.

I'd still love to know what organizations possessed this beauty over the years.

Worthy of note for folk who pooh-poo out of hand - the getting of letters relative to the value of the gun.

That is a beautiful pistol. I admit I don’t know much about them. Are they good shooters? What’s she worth? I love the ergonomics of those grips.

Still beautiful.

You should feel it!:)

Too much for my blood as well, but I am not above ogling one forever, and taking the clerk up on his offer when he asked if I wanted to see it.

I was amazed to find not one, but two, at our LGS. A good price of fourteen.
We’ve been getting strange stuff in, since they changed owners.
If stuff like that won’t sell in Traverse City/ Fish Town, I wonder how they think they’ll sell it down here.
We are not so “flush” here, comparing.

That is an awesome pistol @ApacheCoTodd. I hope it shoots as well as it looks, cause dang! She look good!:)

Dang! I’ll admit I don’t know much about the 41 but that’s a beaut.

What did the military do with them? Pistol competition?

After I sold mine to a friend several years ago - I unfortunately found that they had risen just a bit beyond what I was willing to pay even though I could readily afford a good one. Just seemed higher than I was willing to go.

This one, fell into my lap recently in a very advantageous trade so I was well able to justify it.

The books and experts say that they were bought and stated to be used for training only with the Hi Standard as the regular competition pistol.

Fortunately, Individual histories and photographs show that to not be 100% accurate once the pistols were distributed.

Mine seems to be a one-off delivery outside of the noted military pistols. Trying to find out anything about the *U.S. Military Distribution Officer, Boston, Ma* has been tough. I know there was a *Boston Army Base* when I was stationed at Ft Devens, Mass so that may be a clue.
