(not counting dad's guns)...
First pistol: S&W 645.
First shotgun: Remington 870 Express Magnum.
First rifle: Ruger 10-22.
Still have them...

First and worst of all: Taurus 83, in nickel. Spit lead and bound up after six shots from almost non existent cylinder gap. Bad barrel, ripped jackets off bullets and leaded to the point it had to be pounded out.
First Semiauto: AMT Back-Up 45. Insanely hard trigger pull. Jammed a lot with any ammo.
First Rifle: Winchester 1892, .357 great gun.
First good Revolver: Dan Wesson 15-2. The Taurus went to Miami twice, Taurus said there was nothing wrong with the barrel, then was sold off.
First good Semiauto: Browning BDA 380.

If that doesn't say handguns have improved I don't know what does. Even the Taurus and 1911s (and they are Kimbers so put that in your pipe and smoke it) I've bought lately have run 100% with anything from large mouth JHP to Aluminum Case. Gone are the days I bought a new LW Commander in .45 and had to have the extractor tuned and barrel throated to shoot Flying Ashtrays. The new 856 Revolver a buddy paid $175 for locks up tight, has a decent trigger and doesn't spit lead.

Oh yeah, they have gotten a lot better. I had so many dud new guns for a couple of years it was like I was jinxed.
I should have put in "Worst Semiauto", which was the bought new Colt Combat Commander in SS, and it was total junk. Chatter marks on both the frame and slide, Until it was worked on twice by Colt and again by a local gunsmith, it never got through a whole mag without at least one jam. That was with 230 gr. FMJ. Trying to shoot HP ammo was just an insane idea. I haven't had a gun with any issue, used or new, in about 5 years. Last one was a Taurus 809, it had problems with anything but 124 gr. FMJ ammo. Taurus was unable or unwilling to fix it. I sold it and later on got another 809 and it was perfect. It shot anything and I have kept it. I have 3 polymer TDA guns, and I would put the 809 I have now in a close to second place, behind my CZ P-07 Custom Shop, and my favorite and cheapest of the 3 the SAR CM9 G2. If it was twice the price, it would still be a great gun, but for $260 (I paid 250 shipped!) it's fantastic.

First gun for me was a Ruger 10/22 that I bought new in the late 70's and still use.
Second was a Mini 14 I bought a year later.
The third was a Ruger K77VT in .308.
First hand gun was a Ruger Vaquero in .45 Colt.
First carry gun was a Walther PPK.
I still own and use all these.
I have always cleaned and lubed them after each use and they still
perform like new.
My first shotgun is my early 70's Remington Wingmaster 870.
I have always liked the old Remington 870. The
870 just plain works every time.

First Pellet Gun: Sheridan Blue Streak (1970)
First Firearm: Stevens Model 34 .22 (1968)

A Stevens .22LR - .410 over under was my first firearm. My dad bought it used for my 12th birthday, paid $24 for it.
I still have it and have taken many squirrels with it.

I dig it!
A 24H-dl was both my first shotgun and rifle for my trapline. I had been using a Sheridan Blue Streak until then.

Your earlier Stevens version is much.... MUCH prettier!

Todd.

my first rifle was a bb gun daisy pump cuz the lever guns didn't have as much power!!!

my first hi powered rifle Rem Model 760 -30.06

Rifle AND Shotgun: Savage 24 22LR/20 gauge
Handgun: High Standard Double Nine

I still have the Savage but I traded the revolver to my great uncle 40 years ago. I have no idea what became of it, and he isn’t around to ask.

In 1958 my mothers uncle Bob gave me his Springfield Armory 45/70 that he was issued by the Iowa National Guard and he had used in Cuba. Took my first Iowa white tale with it that year. Still have and shoot the rifle. Will pass it to one of my grandsons, three of them have taken deer with it.
Two years later he gave me his single action army colt .45. It still shoots great.
