Chopped Glock or Sig 320?

How should I get my long-barreled subcompact?

I want a long slide/sight radius (4.5-5 inch barrel) pistol with a short subcompact grip for concealed carry. I was going to cut down a Glock 22 since they are so cheap now, but then I thought about putting a subcompact frame on my Sig 320 -- since the adaptability is why I got it in the first place. However, I am not sure if they will fit -- it doesn't seem like anyone has done this on the interweb has put a full-sized 320 on a subcompact frame. So then I thought about getting a full-sized 320 frame and cutting that since they are cheap.

What say you?

I'd chop a Glock if that is what you want. I've never done it but have a G20 and G17 that I've thought about chopping the grip down to G30 and G19 length. I've seen enough of those done to know that it works and looks good. Not so sure about how it would work with a Sig.

I actually suggested this on another post this morning looking for a a long barrel compact. I prefer the Glock but yes the full size slide of a 320 will fit a compact or carry frame. Many have done it. Many pictures with a Google search. Buy the full size gun. Then buy the 20-40 dollar grip "module". X or standard. Compact or carry. At least that Would be the cheapest route since Sig is pretty proud of their upper/conversion kits. Usually cost more than a whole full size gun.

Thanks creston. I’ve seen videos and pics of the carry and compacts on a full size upper. However, I haven’t seen a subcompact. No reason to think it wouldn’t fit, but I assume someone would have done it if possible.

In the long run, the price is probably the same since I’ve got drawers full of every glock accessory imaginable. If I go sig and like it I’ll easily spend the difference in mags, holsters, etc.

I've seen it done. And seen them online. There will be a 1/8 inch or maybe less gap between the dust cover/ picatinny rail and the slide bottom but everything works fine.

The gun balances like crap although no worse than the 6 inch glocks. Also some of the early mags base plates wont work with the X grips. I have a crap load of glocks and 2 sig 320s. If you havent shot a 320 they are actually pretty nice. I'd link a pic of a full size 320 on subcompact frame but dont like stealing others pictures. I did download one to post though. I found plenty by googling 320 full size slide on subcompact frame. If you see a small gap between the bottom of the slide and the picatinny rail then it is a subcompact grip module

80% lower might be cheaper

If you have the full size 320 (300 bucks pretty often for CPO That's what I paid for both of mine) you can buy the grip module for 20-40 dollars. Even straight from sig. Because of the fact that the trigger group is one serialized piece that is called the firearm and a drop in part and the "frame" "grip module" or whatever is sold more like a replacement grip. I would put it on a carry/ compact frame because of the tiny gap on the subcompact grip personally but ive seen it done both ways.

For the glock then your right it would likely be cheaper.

The smoothest method would be putting a full sized slide/upper on a Compact grip module and than cutting the compact frame down to the size you size want. The Compact grip module has a slightly longer dust cover, than the Carry, to bridge the gap between it and the slide.

The advantage of cutting down a SIG 320 grip module is that they run less than $30 and you aren't cutting on a serialized part. If you don't like it, or make a mistake, you can try again with another module...you're only out $30

I did a chop-job on a Glock 17, along with undercutting the trigger guard and re texturing the frame. It worked out nice.

I'd go the SIG route. There is no issue with compatibility, because rails belong on the chassis anyway. The only problem you're going to see is the gap between the short dust shield and the slide:

Upd: Member 9mmepiphany above suggested cutting the compact, which covers the gap. I dunno about that... Seems like a lot of work, with SIG's baseplate intruding into the grip.

I vote SIG. Not affecting the resale value. I believe one of the sig pros talked about something like this on ones of the shooting shows. Though he may have gone the other way. Carry slide/barrel with full size grip and mags.

The P320 compact will fit a full length slide. it worked flawless. Buy a full size. and i have a compact frame i will send you (just pay for the shipping) and get a magazine.

So I found the $40 package on CDNN for a 320 subcompact grip, mag and holster. I put it all together last night and it looks good. The only concern I have is that there is very little resistance on the first 1/4 of racking the slide. To the extent that holstering the pistol will keep it out of battery without an extra push on the back of the slide. Now I just have to find an IWB holster I like, and get it to the range.

did you reset the trigger by raising the slide lock? If not you will have a dead trigger and the mag wont seat. Most of us panicked the first time we removed the trigger pack because of it. There should be no difference in the resistance since the locking block and all that is in the same place on both frames (same piece actually).

There is mine.

Since this is meant to be a strength of the platform and you're one of the rare few who desire such a configuration I say go with the 320 and factory parts swapping. Let us know how it shoots if you do!

I built a Glock .40 with a g23 lower and g22 upper, using a polymer80 hybrid frame. It's the longslide version (75 dollars at midwayusa), designed to do exactly this combination. You can also do it in 9mm--g19 lower and g17 upper. It is perfectly balanced for me, and I can use a glock 22 magazine if I want. I cannot say enough good things about the polymer80, especially ergonomics.
