Yes, as described in the name of the part, the friction ring is supposed to provide friction. It’s not supposed to slide freely-it acts as a brake for all of that steel moving backward toward you.

I don’t know why you keep swapping parts and stretching springs. The parts all sound worn out to me, and stretching springs works for about a hot minute. You need new, fresh springs. They aren’t expensive. Your gun will thank you.

If it’s doing something different than it was before, then it sounds like something is missing in re-assembly.

Try again using the manual above. If that doesn’t work, time for a smith.

Idk it's all new parts that I bought as mentioned it's the old one that got stretched not the new one

Some reading states to inspect carrier latch operation.
Latch spring and follower binding.
Carrier latch stud damage.
Carrier dog/slide binding or fit issue.

Seems odd. Gunpartscorp m11 parts list shows #66-carrier dog spring. #67-carrier dog spring follower.
Must be missing something. Haven't located it on the TM 9-285.

So I took it apart and put it back together again and it isnt locking back still but the lift spring there seems to not have any spring to as it isnt lifting and its doesn't seem to be binding

Check for full operation of the carrier latch.

Carrier spring is a quandry. You stated the new carrier dog spring was longer and thicker. Did it slide in very freely? Even if so being thicker it possible it may be kinking a bit when collapsed.

My model 11 was galled up pretty bad at the friction point between the barrel and the reciever. Clearly, it had been ran dry a lot. Perhaps there is an issue in the friction point which could explain the barrel sticking back, and if it’s not moving properly due to slow movement from drag then that would explain jams.

So the issue was the new action spring or probably plunger was too long to work and the bolt wasnt going back far enough

It ran fine for about 7 shots 4,5 and 6 decided to give their best impression of a machine gun so I have a sear issue but then it went back to what it was doing before

Also round 7 it locked up like that again and this time I figured out why it did the chamber was dirty and didn't have a chance to pull the shell out I ended up pulling the whole thing apart before I could get it this time
