I am looking for a new iwb, I prefer DA/SA. I have a 92 I carry but want something a bit smaller. Thinking about a 229, I like the no safety.

I was considering a g19 but there is something reassuring about seeing a hammer down.

How does it compare size wise to the 92FS? That’s no small gun but I can carry it iwb, just want something a little smaller

The P229 is a good gun. There are other Sig options that might fit the bill, such as the P239, P224, and P225. But the P229 has endurance, and also good balance.

HK p2000, Beretta PX4 compact, CZ P07. All are very good hammer fired “Glock 19’s” so to speak.

I have been running HK P2000’s for quite a long time now and I am very happy with them. They are my hammer fired Glock 19/23.

Cz P01 is a great carry gun. Size wise, it fits in a leather IWB holster made for a G19. weight wise...I don't even notice it's there. And is not a polymer gun. That's a plus in my book.

Cz 75 compact is a little slimmer and sleaker than the P01. But being all metal gun, there are times I do notice the weight.

Both are fantastic choices.

The curved shape of the CZ grip makes it print less and also makes it easier to quickly deploy.... (At least for me that is.)

HK USP compact, another great hammer fired gun. I've really taken a liking to the PX4 as of late, and find it fantastically shootable. I say that as someone who has carried a P225 or USP as my hammer fired gun for going on 2 decades now. I'm debating dropping the money of a compact carry PX4 I like it that much.

Also the only one still in production on that list since I read they are dropping the 225 in 2020.

As noted also worth checking that are roughly Glock 19 (though the 229 is closer to the 45 or 19x) size, DA/SA are the CZ compacts, 75 Compact, P01, PCR

Also worth looking at are lighter options, the CZ P-07 (almost exactly G19 size) and the Beretta PX4 Compact and some HK options.

Personally for a DA/SA carry option I like the P07 and PX4.

I'd suggest the Beretta PX4 Compact or PX4 Compact Carry. You could even get one in a subcompact size... I own a CZ P07 too, but I prefer the PX4 over it. There are also plenty of upgrades you can add yourself to tailor the PX4 to your liking per BerettaUSA website... Honest, even though the P07 might be more common, I believe the PX4 has more options when it comes to customization, and most of those options/parts are manufactured and sanctioned by Beretta themselves and not by some third party...

If you prefer a non polymer pistol, the CZ P01 and PCR are nice and have a aluminum frame. Then there's the heavier P01 Compact with an all steal frame... IMHO and based on my two anecdotal examples (standard P01 and P01 Omega), the out the box triggers aren't the best. It can be improved however with Cajun Gun Works parts...

The two guns I carry are a glock 27 99 percent of the time and a 229 both in 40 during the winter months (not at the same time.). There is 3 round capacity difference and the glock is 27 oz loaded while the sig is 38. I have 2 229s. One is just as accurate as the glock the other is much less but I believe it is getting better. I'm at 500 rounds on it now. The 229 is bigger by a good bit. Big enough that it wont fit in any of my cars glove boxes while the Glock will if turned correctly. (4 mustang's, all have locking glove boxes....albeit very small ones)
My 226s shoot better than my 229s and weigh under 2 oz more (my 229 is one oz under my beretta 96 while the 226 is 1 oz over a full size glock 22 is 6 oz under it). Capacity is the same and they are slightly longer in slide length. The 229 is very slightly wider. The reason I carry the 229 over the 226 is that I carry in a horizontal shoulder holster and the length of the slide matters more than IWB. If I had to carry one IWB it would be the 226.

I prefer DA/SA for carry. I like the traditional Sig Sauer "P" Series pistols. However, Sig's double stacks are a tad fat for my hand. I would suggest the Sig 225 A-1.

If that's the case find a 229 with the E2 grip. I actually just got my first one with the E2 and I took it off. Makes the old p series feel entirely too small IMO

Agreed, but they fit my wife's much smaller hands very well. She really liked my P229 with the E2

Too bad for her I had no choice but to trade it for a Dan Wesson Valkyrie

Same here. Wife liked them but I despised them. I have numerous 22x guns and love the feel. The E2 just wasnt 22x to me. Luckily a pair of standard grips and screws is all one needs to fix it.

This is sorta like the typical spin off in the threads asking about one platform vs. another: OP asks for comparisons of two specific pistols (SIG P229, Beretta 92) ...

… immediately, guys suggest CZs ...

At least it's not "Get a Glock."

Most of the box SIG classic P-series will have much better triggers than the stock CZs and will be capable of better accuracy. After you get past the cool looks of the CZ-75 variants … you have to pay appreciably more for the upgraded performance models. A SIG P-229 with the SRT is a versatile carry pistol, conceals well in something like a Milt Sparks VM II (IWB) or Kramer Belt Scabbard (OWB pancake).

LGS had the Sig SP2022 for $350.
That gives you the DA/SA Exposed Hammer and the Poly Frame.
Friend settled on one for his first pistol and has been very happy. It has a very nice trigger.

I read his original post as he’s looking for a smaller option....was considering a few different...kind of likes the 229 but size is a question mark. Perfectly appropriate to offer up suggestions within his criteria of a da/sa carry gun smaller than the 92.

I have had the CZ SDP and the Pro Tek 1.... both customized CZs. I sold both and still have my original stock PCR. Once it’s been shot a few hundred times, the trigger smooths out significantly. I love that gun!

Don’t get me wrong, my Sig P239 has never-sell status.

Yeah, you're correct; I re-read his post, thought he was asking for a specific comparison of the two models he mentioned … wasn't trying to be critical of the suggestion, merely noting with amusement that a lot of these threads end up with guys proposing guns that an OP hadn't mentioned or wanted to know about. I am a big CZ fan as well, just wish they came stock with decent triggers and sights.

two models he mentioned

I was waiting on some one else to show the 92 and 229 side by side. I'll be home from work around 8 and I'll post some myself if no one else has.
IMO though they are both so big that if your fine CCing either one then you could probably CC any other full size da/sa.... there just big and heavy. So much so that many agencies issue the 229 for a duty gun. My Troopers and Game guys both carry the 229. I actually never cared for the 229 since the 226 shoots better IME and weighed virtually the same thing. But that's just an opinion. I'll post up the two (96 and 229 because that's what Ill have handy but it's the same size) side by side in a bit and the OP can decide.

I have pictures in my linked thread of a 92 compact in comparison to a P229. That’s pretty close as the compact isn’t exactly tiny.

Legion beavertail and grips are a perfect fit for me. All future Sig p series will have those, and preferably SAO but that's not here nor there.

No worries, I'm not set on a specific model, I didn't get the CZ pistols a look I keep hearing them mentioned. CZ-75 looks nice.

The thread that was linked has a good comparison of pistol sizes and it was what I was looking for, I haven't held either pistol before and no one has one in stock near me.
