Why are there more guns on Gunbroker than Gunsamerica?

If someone bids inside 15 minutes of the scheduled end of the auction, the auction is automatically extended 15 minutes. It prevents sniping—putting in a higher bid just as the auction ends. Sort of like the “Going once, going twice...” at a live auction. The auction ends when there are no more bids, not when the time expires.

Ah, cool.

This is to keep auction snipers from putting in a bid in the last few seconds without an opportunity for the prior highest bidder to tespond. However, the next highest bidder's bid does not hsve to be exceeded to reset the bid countdown to 15 minutes remaining. The system still retains your proxy bid. Someone with excrutiating patience can keep increasing their bid every 14 minutes 55 seconds for example increasing their non-winning (so far) bid by the price bracket bid increment hunting for where your proxy bid tops out at. It just keeps kicking what was the highest bid by enough to be one bid increment higher than their bid if they haven't exceeded the next highest bidder's proxy bid limit.

Usually if there's a real bidding war, it'll involve 2 or 3 bidders each using the 15 minute rule to keep submitting bids until as Highlander said "There can be only ONE!"

Some auctions include BuyItNow! prices to sidestep all this, ehich is wise if the auction price is nearing, or seems to be nearing, the BuyItNow! price to bypass further bidding and 15 minute rule.

Some items are fixed price, no auction process.

Some items have "Take A Shot" option that operates like eBay Best Offer, where you can offer the seller a lower price than the item Minimum Bid price, and the offer is only visible to you and the seller where you directly negotiate.

Until now I had never heard of guns America although I've bought fron gunbroker a few times. That may be why. I hear about gunbroker at work pretty much daily but never gunsamerica. I'll check them out though. I'm assumingit's similar?

I have never heard of it either.

I have never heard of it either.

How it worked for me was years and years ago I heard of Gunsamerica and believed it to be the only online gun auction site. Years later I heard of Gunbroker and assumed it was some type of copycat.

Snipping is what I dislike about Ebay.

ALSO: Gunbroker was originally in Kennesaw, GA, though they've grown and move to Atlanta. S

Guys & Gals. It's scary out there. I did just sell a gun on GunBroker last week. But all of a sudden Guns America posts have started showing up on my FaceBook feed today.

I love GB, I’ve probably bought 40 items (and at least 25 of them were guns) over the years. In fact I’m high bidder on an auction for a revolver now.

I’ll probably get outbid, but that’s ok because I set my maximum and if someone wants it more so they outbid my max they can have it. So far I’ve never “overpaid” what I think a gun is worth, or gotten into a last-minute bidding war so I later regret the price, so I’m good with it.

GA was too much of a pain when I first snooped around there so I’ve never bought from that site.

Stay safe.

My first gun bought from an online auction was on the old "Auction Arms" now Gunauction site, but from about 2008 on, it's almost all GB purchases. I don't like the gunauction interface at all, and to be honest, I don't like the new GB interface a whole lot better. When I look for a gun lately, I almost always end up getting it on GB every time, even though I take the time to look at gunauction to see if they have one too. The selection of not too popular guns is much much better on GB.

I don't believe I have ever purchased anything from Gun Auction owing to the confused site.
I like GunBroker's 15 minute rule (aka: Soft Close) which allows each bidder time to bid/not bid. It seems more fair to every bidder.

I've purchased some no-longer-produced (vintage) bullets & ammo on Gun Auction, but no firearms. Whole different story on Gunbroker.

It's sad because I usually get better deals on gunsamerica.com and If I'm not mistaken the fees are less than Gunbroker.com

For me it has become Armslist. There from the home page I can quickly and easily do a search of just my state. So far I have made 2 purchases from tat site and both were local and FTF. No shipping, no transfer fee. Helps keep the costs down.

Is Gunbroker more popular than Gunsamerica?
We list guns on all of them. GB has it set up we can actually sell from there whereas with the others it's easier to email the interested party a link to our own company website and let them buy it from there.
For us they are more a means to advertise with than sell through.

I have been using GB for years both for buying and selling. But recently have signed up with Gun Auction, I have not listed any thing on GA yet.
What I have encountered on GB is something up for sale and is bid to an insane price ($5700.00 for an FN49) by 20 or so bidders, Then a similar item doesn't even get a bid.
Also GB fees are higher than GA and GA doesn't charge for photos (GB gives 4 free) and does the conversion of photos from Hi def to lower resolution.

I looked GA a couple times, just never cared for it ... been a member on GB for over 20 years (I've bought and sold a lot of things) and on their forums for nearly as long
