Talk me out of this Shield

I think the decision of what I want has been made. Now the $64K question will be whether I can scrape the funds together to buy it.
Set up a Go Fund Me page and I am sure we can get the funds raised in a snap. :D

Before I retired, I did a lot of PIF for coworkers in need and when I mentioned that I was thinking about reroofing our house, they threatened to set up a Go Fund Me page ... I had to convince them why it was not necessary ... They were serious.

The lack of holster options has definitely put a damper on this idea. I certainly could change course and just get the 3.3" version, and that would open up lots of options on holsters, and be a cheaper pistol, as well. Time to step back and weigh this all out.

Have a holster made.

I mean, big money-bags attorney, right?

;)

Seriously...if you honestly like the gun, look into having one custom made. My Criterion holster by Milt Sparks was NOT a cheap holster. I imagine you could find someone to make what you want for a comparable price.

I'd prefer the gun not stick out of the bottom, but I suppose I might be able to take a DeSantis Speed Scabbard (or something along those lines) for a Shield 45 and trim the bottom off.

Yeah...you SAY you'd prefer the gun stick out the bottom...until you've put in some range time with it and holstered that bugger HOT.

Trust me...that don't feel good!

I'll do some google-fu and see what I can find.

Get the gun first then look for the holster later. Kind of seems like this is a cart before the horse scenario.

You know you want the Shield so just buy it, have some fun time with it, and the holster situaton will work itself out.

I have to work out the finances first. Quite likely, that will involve selling something or some things off, but that's OK.

@Spats McGee

I'm finding several holsters for your gun. Not knowing exactly what you're looking for, I'm searching leather holsters, either IWB or OWB at random.

Safariland Model 57 Remedy Belt Slide Holster:

I thought the Wright Leather Predator Pancake listed the 4" Shield by name, now I'm not so sure. Still, very good-lookin' holsters and I'll check into them.

Thank you!

I have to correct myself. Wright Leather Works most certainly does make a holster for it. I have to say that the Predator Pancake looks REALLY nice. I was considering getting one for my 1911, even if they didn’t make one for this Shield.

@RetiredUSNChief - you found exactly what I wanted!

I for one don't care for polymer pistols in .45 ACP, I like full metal 1911s. I have 2 1960s Colts. I do however like the S&W 9mms and would trust most of them minus the SD9VE to do what needs to be done. Or better yet get a Ruger 1911 in 9mm:neener::what::ninja:

The only polymer .45 I really like (and I've tried most of them) is the Glock 21, it just works for me.

But, like you, I'd prefer a steel 1911

I prefer a steel 1911 all the live long day, but I have some nerve damage in my lower back making the carrying of said 1911 every day problematic.

Oh I do walk around the woods with my 1911, but 14 hours a day: in the truck, in the office, at my desk, back in truck, picking up a supply run, sitting back down at my office...etc. no thanks. The little Shield is the first .45 pistol I have found that I can keep on my person and actually forget I have it on me not get home with a numb leg due to a heavy gun aggravating my nerves.

Believe me, I'm sure I'd love a Ruger 1911. I love Rugers and I love 1911s. I'd even love one in 9mm, even though it seems slightly blasphemous. But just so we're clear, I started a thread about a polymer-framed, striker-fired, .45 acp pistol, and your suggestion is a steel-framed, hammer-fired 9mm? :p

My first carry gun was a gov't model 1911 in .45 acp. I still have it and all of the various accessories, so I could carry it. And I've enjoyed the G21s that I've shot. But the 1911 got to be a bit heavy for carry, and the G21 is a little on the large side for concealment. Oh, I'm sure it can be done, but I'd have to dress like Inspector Gadget, complete with trench coat and fedora.

I'm sorry to hear about your health problems. And while I don't carry all day, every day (bailiffs get testy if you try to carry into the courtroom, or so I hear), I'd rather carry something lighter than a 1911.

I was also impressed at how well the Shield 45 handled recoil. I could say the same for the XD-S, but I like the hand fit of the Shield better.

Yeah, I've hit the point where a steel 1911 is too heavy for me, sadly. At least in my preferred IWB spot.

The 21 I don't find all that hard to conceal in the winter under a sweatshirt or baggy T with button down over top, but it's not terribly practical outside of winter as extra layers get me too hot in the spring/summer and I hate being hot (I'm a sweaty guy, was much more at home in frozen AK than even the upper Midwest where I live now)

Bond Arms .45 /.410 For when you just gotta have a .45! Took me a hot minute to remember it.

I have the 4 inch Shield 2.0 from the performance center as well as 7 other M&P 2.0’s (a 9mm Shield with the 3 inch barrel, a 40, two 45’s and 3 other 9’s. I like the 2.0’s alot). I haven’t noticed that the PC trigger is lighter.
By the way, Tom, would I be correct in assuming that the PC Shield 2.0 just takes standard Shield 2.0 mags? I'd hate to buy this thing and discover that I have to buy $75 mags or some such nonsense.

It takes the same mags. I’m assuming the 45 does as well but you may want to confirm that with S&W.
