I wouldn't know if it were truly my dream gun until after I shot it and saw how it performed.

I wouldn't know if it were truly my dream gun until after I shot it and saw how it performed.

When I was in college many years ago my roommate had a 1911. I shot it and was not impressed. I thought it was just as lame as my Dad’s 1911. Fast forward 10 years and the clerk at an indoor range guaranteed that I would change my tune after shooting a Colt Gold Cup. I couldn’t believe the difference! The sweetest gun I ever shot, I immediately bought one. Amazing what good sights and a trigger make.

Over the years I heard how great the Wilson, Clark, and Ed Browns were. In my mind there was no way those guns could out shoot my Gold Cup, especially at 3-4 times the price of the Colt. Then I Won a Wilson Combat. Believe it not I was not excited. I wished it had been a been a gun that I did not own already, after all, nothing could outshoot my Gold Cup.

Wrong! That Wilson made an instant believer out of me on Custom 1911s. Bottom line, after shooting that Wilson I haven’t touched that Gold Cup in 34 years.

I’ve since bought another Wilson and a Les Baer and was not disappointed.

Try to shoot the snot out of it. You will wear out before it does. Enjoy it. That’s what it’s made for and that’s why us bought it.

Well there you go. Best reason I can think of to shoot it. I see a lot of those semi customs for sale for about 70% of what they sold for new. They don't ever seem to increase in value or loose a lot of value either. I think that has to do with the number of them being made and the number of them already sold. They aren't 130 year old Colts or Winchesters.

I've lusted for a semi custom 1911 myself for awhile so I see the draw. If I can pick up a used one for a decent price I might have one someday. If I had it to do over I would have just bought a Wilson before I bought the three Colts that I have. Money spent would have been about the same but a person needs to learn to shoot before one can truly appreciate a fine pistol such as a Wilson.

Yep.. I have a #3 of 10 engraved Guncrafter that was left un shot for a week. All my custom and semi custom guns get shot. My kids wont appreciate unshot condition.

I am Cameron Frye's Dad, and I don't own a red Ferrari, nor a Frank Lloyd Wright house and garage to park it in.......

Not this Cameron Frye....

We hadn't even realized what we'd done until he was about 4 1/2.
So funny. A character on Bobs Burgers is named Logan Barry Busch. His mom says " We didnt think it thru!"

Only guns I would acquire and not shoot would be antique pieces of history that were not considered safe to shoot. But that guy? Oh, we would shoot that guy!

It's a beauty, all right. As I've learned over the years, though, I'm a terrible collector. Just awful. If I own it, I use it. I'd have that sucker out at the range just as fast as I could get there.

That said, I wish you luck in resisting the urge to shoot it. I'm sure it fits your hand like it was made for you and you alone. That it has a smooth, crisp trigger that breaks like the proverbial glass rod. That the action runs just as smooth as silk through the recoil.....
