Bought this guy the udder day. 66-2 In pretty nice shape Made in '87. Came with orig grips which is getting pretty rare these days. No flame cutting. Has Dept. or Agency ser# rollmarked under sideplate. If anybody has a similarly marked gun (placement, font, ser# length) and has an idea of where it came from please post info. I know it's a stretch figuring it out. Probably was issued to Peruvian mounted Llama corps..

That's a beauty. I love the shorter barreled 357 Magnums especially the S&W's. Mine is a Charter Arms, not so nice but a great little mean machine.

Outstanding!

I wish the normal production units would have featured the separate black front blade instead of the annoying plastic orange ramp insert. I had to install night sights on my 66-2 snub to get rid the stupid thing.

I got nothing to offer other than.... I want it.

I dig my 66 and I'd love a shorter one too.

I know it's the reflex action for some fellas to poo-pooh getting a *letter* from S&W but, I have yet to regret the cost spent in alleviating my curiosities for particular guns. So, for the guys who say it doesn't increase the value - I say: "So what?"

Todd.

Ive been using these of late. Just picked up another for an old Model 10 I picked up. I have them on a couple of others as well.

I actually like them better than the Tyler grips. Unfortunately, I dont think they have them in silver though.

A letter would only tell where it was shipped leaving the factory and since just about every law enforcement agency in that era bought their guns through a distributor, you still wouldn't know which agency bought the gun. Without having the particular agency's id along with the number, I'd just shoot it and enjoy it. Knowing the agency might add a little value to the right buyer and at the same time having those numbers on the frame might lower the value to others. Call it a wash and enjoy it like it was made for. Shooting. If the numbers bother you and they look like they were lightly laser engraved, they could be sanded or buffed out and the stainless either polished or glass beaded.

Nice find, you can't go wrong. I got it's twin about five years ago. Make sure you wear both foam plugs and ear muffs, it's got a nasty bark.

Shop near me just got one in just like it. Beautiful gun, but not worth the $995 they are asking to me

I actually used Scotch Brite to to remove some light scratches on the sideplate. I might try to remove the laser etched ser# as it barely breaks the surface.

I remember this when the product was under development. He added the second mounting tab which looks like a great idea. Thanks for suggestion I'm gonna order a black one and use it on j frame and move it's Tyler to the 66.

I'm a big fan of short barreled, magnum K frames

Actually; "A letter might only tell where it was shipped leaving the factory......"

I have received several that detailed greater than a distributor detail. If it had been back might be in there too. Also, a distribute might be known for solely supplying to a single agency.

It cracks me up that the anti-letter crowd almost takes it personal that no one ever seek one out.

Don't knock those LLama Corps guns. They're quite rare!

On a more serious note, I'm not as big a fan of the 2.5" 66 or 19 as most people but I vastly prefer them to the 2" Model 10 or Model 64.

I like them all.

I have both SB and RB 2" model 10's, and a 2.5" 19. The 10's, especially the RB's, are just as sexy. :)

Always have my eye out for a snubbie 64 or 66, but you dont see many around here.

I dont think Id try rubbing the numbers off. They are just a part of the guns history, and they dont look bad.

One of my model 10 snubbies has a NY DOC ID plate on the side, and while in pretty good shape (best choice of three they had, and the other two were pretty "rough"), shows some honest wear. The barrel actually spun off while I was cleaning it after the second time out. Looks like the thread locker they used gave it up (they never should have quit pinning them :)). I degreased it good, put some blue Loctite on the threads, and timed it back up. Been fine ever since, and I shoot it all the time.
