Berry's 124gr Plated bullets

I have used the flat point target HP and the standard HP. Both with tight group.

with the flat point I have heard others mention they have had feeding issues. My G43 seems to really like them.

Has anyone used these Berry's plated hollow point bullets? I used to buy the Remington 115gr 9mm hollow points but since Remington seems to have taken themselves out of the reloading supply for the most part I am looking for a new less expensive 9mm bullet. These run .13 per bullet for the 124gr 250ct box.

I have tried loading them using several powders and found them difficult to find a decent load. Several ladders I've worked up had me at max and it still wouldn't cycle the pistol. I put them to the side until i have more time to experiment with them.

I do remember that the COAL was tricky to get them to pass the plunk test.

Thanks for the heads up on the RMR site. I had just heard about them here a few days ago and had forgotten about them. The price looks right. After reading some of the reviews on the Berry's bullets some had stated they were soft and the plating tore when seating them. I have some plated 44, 357 and 32 FMJ Berry's bullets and those things are tough as rocks. Maybe the hollow points are closer to Speer copper plating.

I just ordered 400 Winchester 110gr HP 38s so I have to wait before I buy my next order (limited income now) but 9mm bullets will be my next purchase.

I have been using Berry's and Xtreme plated bullets in 380, 9mm and 45acp since I've restarted Handloading again. Now since I've come here as soon as I need some I will be ordering from our sponsor RMR and give then a good try. I was just buying as needed from Cabela's and then a huge buy from an internet close-out. Sadly I wasn't able to shoot much salt year so I still have a good supply.

Ratshooter,
don't forget RMR offers THR members a 5% discount.
I think you will like the MPRs, great bullet, great company.
I've been ordering from RMR for years and don't know about any 5% discount. Could you (or someone else) educate me?

Thx

Buy the RMR bullets. I used to load extreme and Berry's but the RMR are about the same price and are MUCH better! I just hope RMR can keep the price the same. I will never go back to plated....

I used these back when components were hard to come by, mainly because Midway had them in stock and had free shipping at the time. They are a decent plated bullet, clean to load and shoot and had decent groupings. The plating separation issues are usually due to improper (over) crimping. Loaded with a faster burning powder these can be very mild, to competition 125 PF, or up to SD equivalents.
You’re well advised to try RMRs line, they’re hard to beat and are jacketed rather than plated. If you’re looking for the least expensive you’ll have to visit one of the lead or lead coated companies like Acme or Blue. As usual, the bulk 3K options yield the better cost per bullet. At least try RMRs, you’ll not be disappointed.

Precision Delta 9mm 124 JHP.
.11 1st k, .08 2k or more.
I like Precision Delta's 124 gr JHP. A close clone dimension wise, for Hornady's XTP. And of good quality.
I did order some 124 gr. JHP from RMR for the 1st time. Should be getting them tomorrow. :)

I didn't know that but will keep it in mind when ordering them. Thanks for the heads up.

I have shot many of the barry's plated bullets with problems. I had read their cauction about over crimping and the crimp cutting the jacket. So I took one bullet to see if I could separate the jacket from the core. I used a hammer and beat that bullet to a flat puck and never had the jacket come off. It did seperate the jacket but the fragments were still stuck to the lead core. But maybe the HP bullets are made a little different with thinner plating.

I have shot lots of Berry's as well. They load fine and are great for plinking loads. With 9mm, you would only be using a taper crimp to just remove the flare anyway so there shouldn't be any issue with damaging the plating. I would be more concerned if you were loading a revolver round and needed to apply a medium to heavy roll crimp.

f you look at the link I posted and read a couple of the comments the guys were reporting tearing the plating when seating the bullets. That tells me somebody didn't flare the cases enough. Thats why I was asking here. I thought someone would have loaded some of these. I am more interested in the RMR bullets now.
