Okay, I just plopped down $450- on a Model 66 no dash pinned and recessed .357, is that too much? I know it is a bad time to ask, kinda like how do you like my new tattoo.

Seriously, am I anywhere near ballpark on the gun? I got it from an ex-LEO, moderate holster wear, nothing serious, original grips are in good shape, no box or papers. Carried a lot, shot very little.

Stock photo, not actual gun. Mine has the original S.S. plain blade front sight, no red insert, and S.S. rear sight.

Didn't have a lot of time to research it, prices are all over the place on these guns! The no dash pinned and recessed seem to be holding their value well.

Ya'lls thoughts, please.

If the model 66 pictured is the gun you purchased for $450, you got a hell of a deal! It does not appear to have a pinned barrel and probably not recessed chambers. It looks new and if it is as you believe, It would fetch at least $600 in my area.....dealers would likely ask more. Congratulations!

Thanks for the input everyone! Sounds like I made a good score.

As I stated in the OP, that isn't the actual gun, I bring it home tomorrow. I will post pics when I get it home.

Mine is definitely a 66 No Dash, pinned and recessed wich I hear is more desireable.

Someone will say MIM guns are just as good and how performance center is so swell but there is something special about a pinned and recessed Smith. A golden era never to come along again. Like a handwired Fender twin with factory jbl's. Craftsmanship with few expenses spared and no corners cut. Congrats. Be sure and pass it on to your progeny.

In my area, $450 for that gun would be the price to a good friend, possibly a very good friend. The stainless rear sight is quite uncommon. I am not sure how it affects the value, but it would definitely be hard to replace if you wanted another one. They changed to a black rear sight pretty early in the model 66 run.

Good comparison...
To the OP, I think thatis a great price, and while I never pay full price for anything I would have brought it home too. Can't wait to see the pics.

I've seen far worse specimens of Model 66s going for far more. In my area (which apparently harbors most of the serious collectors of old P&R S&W magnums in the entire country), that revolver could probably fetch $650 easily (in 2.5 inch trim, add a couple hundred).

Yeah, I'd say it was a fair price for one of Smith's best revolvers. But OP, you probably knew that, right? -- since THR is the home of all the serious K-frame junkies on the internet … :)

Actually Dog, I wasn't sure, but figured this was a good place to ask, as you all are great about sharing info. As it works out, the 475 bucks I laid out was a pittance. I have shown this gun to about a half a dozen people, two were collectors, both wanted it bad, one of them shoved 750 in my face because of the very early build date, S.S. rear sights, P & R, serrated trigger, plain front sight, and several other features he pointed out.

I am not really a big S & W or revolver guy, and I don't really have a feel for the market. I just like the Smith revolvers after owning my 686 Plus for a while and it has made me rethink the whole wheelgun thing. I feel like I was very lucky to have stumbled up on it! I don't really want to sell it but it is nice to know that I could easily get my money back and then some.

I appreciate the reassurance and the kind comments from you all!
