I followed the conversation concerning the Carryhawk and it seems most seniment that anybody who carries a Single Action for defense is an idiot. That places me in the idiot category. This is on my side every time I go out:

Its a Ruger Blackhawk, in .45 Colt. The .45 Colt has been proven to be a very effective sidearm for over one hundred years. Yes, there's newer gun around. But newer does not =better.

I've carried Single Actions of one kind or another for over sixty years and never felt undergunned. The only time I ever pulled my gun for a serious situation was when I found myself nearly surrounded by some old cottonmouths.

I had been fishing with some friends down in southeastern Georgia, along a creek in some heavy wooded area. I was armed with a Colt Frontier Scout .22. It was nearing dusk when I saw a half sheet (4' x 4') of plywood floating down the creek. Coiled up on it was a fair sized old cottonmouth. I drew that Colt and fired one shot, almost severing its head. As I shot there was a commotion on the bank to my right and another cottonmouth tumbled off the undercut bank and I threw a shot at it, which did sever its head. The shot still sounded when a third one slithered between my legs. I shot it as it reached water, cutting off its head and stuffing its neck into the hold blown in the soft mud. Water rained down on my hat brim from the geyser thrown up. Nearly as fast as I could swing my arm and get off a shot I had shot and killed three cottonmouths Without ever moving my feet!

And, as to having a .45 ACP cylinder, sure makes things interesting:

A lot of people carried single actions for a long time. If it works for you then you’re not an idiot just someone smart enough to know what works for them. I get a lot of flack from the guys at work for carrying a revolver of any kind. One fella in particular touts his Glock 43 and I asked him if his 7 rounds of 9mm is better than my 7 rounds 357? Needless to say I don’t hear much from him on the subject anymore.

You carry a single action. I don't want to invite condemnation on myself from others by offering support and encouragement. You need a Glock. Or at least a Glock shirt. You see, that's actually not your belt that carries that gun, it's our belt, as gun owners, collectively. So we bear the weight, and deficiencies, of that revolver, together, as a community. And "our" feeling that a Glock is a superior weapon trumps your personal freedom to carry a single action.

Just kidding! Nice guns op!

BobWright, I like that Blackhawk.

I think a single action is just fine for carry if that is what you are most confident with. I have carried my Vaqueros and New Vaqueros for protection. I have also carried Glocks and other semi-autos but my favorite for regular carry (2 legged varmint carry) is my S&W 442. But if I am in the woods or desert my stainless steel Vaquero with a 7.5” barrel loaded with .45 Colt is riding my hip.

Although not a .45, I love strapping on my Super Blackhawk during deer gun season. It pairs nicely with my Winchester in .44 mag. Admittedly, I can be judgy.....I see a guy in tactical pants and a hi-point hanging from his hip in Walmart and I cringe. I see you coming with that rig and you’ll get a nod and a Matthew Mcconaughy “all right, all right, all right....”

The proudly displayed hi-point is a right of passage. Put that giant .380 in a poorly fitted generic nylon holster on your braided brown leather belt from moms closet, bedazzled ed hardy shirt, tactical neck beard and what the heck some tactical knee pads too and go intimidate the fine people of Wal-Mart .

Right after I was born, doc slapped my butt, then he handed me a Ruger single six. I immediately stopped crying.

Just a year or two after we were wed, mrs f bought a custom Kirkpatrick rig for my one and only centerfire handgun, a Ruger Blackhawks 4⅝ .357. That reverse cant, undercut, Kirkpatrick fast draw rig has hung on our bedpost for over 35yrs now. We slept pretty soundly knowing that blackhawk was within my reach, and I assure you that back then, I knew how to run it too.
Nowadays there are teenagers and toddlers everywhere you look, so the gun is locked away. But that blackhawk served me as well as any gun I have ever owned.

Not my first choice, I was glad when my job went from revolvers to Glocks. But, to each his own.

However, the fashion police called. They said you picked up points for the horn grips, but lost them for non matching leather. Something about improper accessorizing in the third degree, BBQ's were off limits until you cleaned up your act. lol

Seriously, nice rig.

You don't want to get me started on the subject of BBQ! (I live in Memphis, where Adam and Eve held their first BBQ)

I would carry it, NP. Mine are all 6.5" or 7.5". I need to get a smaller one sometime.

It seems unlikely to me that I would ever have a chance to reload if I got jumped, and I can shoot a good SA about as fast as I can shoot anything (and probably more accurately).

Nice rig! :)
