7B07537A-A57C-4275-BFD2-7B5576A9B5BB.png I have had this one for several months now, and I have to say it has been a very nice pistol. The factory mags are 50/50 one functions flawlessly the other not so much. With the good factory mag it has never had a failure the other will sometimes fail to feed on the last round. I ran a few hundred rounds through it before I did anything other than a set of Buffalo bone handles and clean it. I polished the trigger bow and adjusted the sear spring, will install an adjustable trigger soon. The trigger is light and crisp but has a little more take up than I would like. I am also considering changing out the sights. The accuracy is better than I am and it is good to go out to at least 50 yards, as I have not tried it any further.
I am not saying it is anywhere near as nice or smooth as the high end 1911’s a friend of mine uses. A Nighthawk, a Les Baer and a Wilson but it is not in that price range either ( neither am I). It does match up well in accuracy with them at least with my skill level. My son (19) loves it much more than any of the plastic guns we or my friends have even a Zev ( did I mention I love having a friend that has way more money than me as I get to see and use things I would otherwise never get to :).
If you are looking at a 1911 don’t overlook these. I bought mine otd at a local chain sporting goods store for less than $600.00. I think they are $579.99 before tax right now. Anyway they are a nice priced stainless 1911.
Yes it’s dirty as I have just came in from the range and not cleaned it yet.

I have one like in post 2. It's a very nice gun at a very nice price.

If Remington could have made a certain other recent semiauto as reliable, accurate and nicely made, well, then ....:uhoh: .... that would be another story ....

Like the bone grips with the stainless steel; looks kind of classy and high-end! I looked at the R1 when I was in the market for a no-frills range gun.Thought it was well made and had the features I was looking for in a basic 1911 but I decided to go with a Colt Government instead. Let us know how the new sights work if you end up replacing them.

I've never shot one, but the R1 has consistently gotten positive reviews over the years. If I were in the market for another 1911, it would certainly make The Long List.

Be careful on modifications. It can easily be a money pit that will not increase it’s price if you decide to sell it. With replacement sights, trigger and sear you are in the price range of a Springfield.

I should know as I did the same thing once myself.

Those were selling new for less than $500 a few years ago. I considered buying one but ended up with another Colt for about the same price. I've never heard anyone complain about the R1. They seem to be on par with the Gov't model Colt except they cost a few hundred less. Service might be better also but I'm just going from what I've gleaned on the internet.

The R1 is an excellent value.

If you're after a GI style pistol, it's really close, but with a couple important updates that are only noticeable to true purists.

If you want something more modern, they have a significant line of enhanced models packed with features that cost less than a certain Brazilian competitors, and comparing them side-by-side, I would say the R1 is more refined and better built.

For example, look at what you get for under $700 here:

I am only looking at a few buck for a trigger the sights might be a bit more but as for the internals other than springs which are cheap nothing needed. You also said something I didn’t understand, could you please explain what “ sell a gun means” I seem to have no concept of that.

have the same gun in stainless. mine works flawless with the factory mags and ironically cheap mil type mags that wont work in my colts or sa and other 1911s. using better mags like Chip McCormicks railed mags, it fails to feed about half the time. feeds about halfway and stops. have to slap back of slide to get into battery. those chip railed mags work perfectly in my colts and sa and other 1911s.

that aside it's a pretty gun for the low dollars and is very accurate.

Thanks, I will have to remember that about the magazines. I agree it has much better accuracy than I ever thought it would.
I just thought I would give a quick informal review of my experience with a newer model Remington R1 S. Just in case anyone was thinking about getting one, now they have several peoples experience with them to maybe help with a decision.

Watch Sportsmans Warehouse. Every now and then they will have the Stainless ones on sale cheap. I bought one a few years ago if I remember correctly for $549 and believe there was a rebate from Remington at that time as well. Either way its not a bad gun for the money. Everyone must be satisfied because you don't see many on the used market. I'm not much of a semi auto guy, but the Remington and Rock Island 1911's are both very under rated in my opinion.

I have a plain R1. It’s a good gun , but I am looking at putting in a longer trigger.
My particular R1 does not like semi wad cutters unless they are seated deep. It’s has never had a problem with any round nose ammo.
I wanted a Colt, but on sale for $499 a while back I had to try it.

Anyone on this tell me what the grip safety on the R1 is like? I remember having to bevel the grip safety edges and trim the hammer (still have a scar on the web of my hand) on Gov Models for shooting comfort.

Several people have shot mine from novice to experienced and no one has gotten bit by it, so far. 25BB90F4-4A58-4981-B738-A93AD20C4EEA.png
