I have the pistol grip/receiver extension/brace on mine, as well as a rail and a different laser, the Laserlyte Center Mass. Other additions included an upgraded safety, magazine follower, Opsol adapter, and XS Big Dot tritium front sight.

It is a completely different weapon with the brace.

I believe in KISS. I have a Shockwave and I like the platform, its naysayers are very short sighted. I have a sling and I added an aluminum higher visibility follower and an aluminum safety. It is lightweight and very handy, great weapons flow. Low recoil 2.75" or mini shells are the preferred fodder.

I don't find my Tac14 to be unwieldy with the birds head. I guess for the platform I would subscribe to @rodinal220's comment of KISS. I put some hockey tape on the grip which helped dramatically and will get a +1 magazine extension, add the single point sling, WML, canvas hand strap attached to the magpul pump and done.

As <*(((>< pointed out simple things like hockey tape(old fashioned black friction tape) or a piece of bicycle inner tube added to the birds head grip aid with the grip. The only real beef with the video above is the Mossberg Shockwave using a brace due to the location of the top mounted safety. I have used Shockwaves set up this way and its not natural or fluid to engage or disengage the safety, the Remington Tac14 works better with the brace with its trigger guard mounted safety.

I specifically bought the Shockwave as a discrete car trip gun, I can see the advantages of this weapon especially as it sits next to my bed but I'm wondering if I didn't make a mistake and should have just gotten a 500 or 590 or even 88 with an 18½" bbl and an AR type adjustable stock.
The other possibility is to fork over $200 for the stamp and put a stock on.
Shockwave is still new never shot.

I put a laser on my Shockwave and removed the ridiculous bead sight and also added a thick ring of tape between the grip and the safety to keep the web of my right hand from riding up with recoil and getting cut by the safety.

I have nearly purchased a Shockwave several times just for this reason. In the end, I always value my couple hundred bucks over something that another gun I already own could arguably do (beyond the raw firepower of a short 12 gauge). I keep debating about getting a .410 version for the truck just for fun, but I haven't stumbled across one while having money in hand and weakness of judgement;)

He's my take on it (very amateur as it may be): if you want a gun that is multiple times more powerful than your average handgun, yet fits in a duffle bag or even behind the car seat, then you probably can't do better than the Shockwave. 26" is pretty small and the Raptor grip doesn't snag like a telescoping stock. Its also more controllable than a pistol grip.

If this gun is going in the trunk of a car and will be used for either camping defense or only pulled out in a broken down on the road emergency, then maybe a telescoping stock with an 18" barrel makes more sense for space saving yet full function use. My late father in law kept an 18" Persuader with said stock in a small cabinet in his RV for this.

My personal travel set up is a pistol in the cabin of the car if traveling to areas that honor my permit (pretty much everywhere I go does). If I am going someone that does not but it is legal to carry long arms in the trunk or if I feel an extra layer of protection is prudent like camping or to the cabin, I usually pack a full size 12 gauge in the trunk. Even in our sedan, I can find room for it. Then again, we are a family of three, so your mileage may vary depending on what you need to pack.

My thought behind this is that while something like the Shockwave may be legal, it may not LOOK legal. If I am packing a pump gun in my car, first of all I want it to be effective. 18-20" barrel does that, but I also dont want it to look out of place. Wood and steel, no doodads on it should a police office need to see it. Cabin defense for varmints is what it looks like.

For hotel/vacation travel I feel better served with a pistol.

So, you keep it next to your bed for defense, but you haven't test fired it?

Haven't had the chance yet. Still, I keep 2 357's and an M9A3 with light and 4 mags and a single shot 410.

Well that's all well and good, but I personally would feel a lot better if you traded that single shot .410 in side by side...just in case;)

So is this just classified as a smooth-bore pistol? I shot one of these things before in their original configuration and let me just say sweating while firing these things isn't fun.

I believe the BATF classification for the Shockwave is neither shotgun, rifle, nor pistol, but "firearm."

I have one in 20 gauge. With the proper technique, mine is fun. I don't put 50 rounds through it in one session though.

Yeah they are basically "none of the above" and are just a "firearm".

I have wanted one for years but really have no use for it. I have a bit of a pause buying something that uses a technical loophole to basically thumb its nose at the ATF. I just worry about what a quick penstroke could mean for owning one of these things.

I still they are beyond cool though:)

Anyone modify their Shockwave like in the video?

<Raises hand a little abashedly> Yep. Mine is quite similar to Plinkster's. I've got a +1 S&J mag tube extender, CDMG mount plate with Monstrum 100-lumen mini flashlight, Crimson Trace red lasersaddle, Tacstar 6-shell sidesaddle, Higoo 13-slot Picatinny top rail, Pinty red/green optic, Opsol minishell adapter, and SBL tactical brace.

I got a little carried away.

I have a 590 with the Mossberg strap over the pump and a SA brace/pseudo-stock and pistol grip.

Absolutely love it. Only thing I might add is a rail and iron sights. I can empty a full rack in rapid succession with it (6'1/200lbs - alternating HP slug and .00 buck) - my wife was able to fire it twice and "got the feel" with .00 buck in it.

I have always thought one of these would be fun. I found a Mossberg 500 ATI Tactical Crusier at my LGS and this thing is a "BLAST" to shoot !!!!! Every time I go to the range I load it up and let it rip !! I put a lazer/ flashlight on it and sighted it in for 25 feet ( the longest distance in my house).I'm very confident I will stop a intruder in the middle of the night. In my humble opinion these are fun to shoot and provide a valuable service in keeping you and your family safe. IMG_20190224_111901056.jpg
