I got some 40gr Sierra hp's there the varminter. The powder I have is bl-c(2). Using FC. Brass. Cci 41 primer.
Any data will help this is just for my 1-8 16'' carbine.

Hidden data for nosler ballistic tips is 26.5 - 28.5 gr of blc2. They show an cool of 2.28" ??? Listed Max pressure is 45400 and 3612 fps. Sorry can't do better than that the lightest I load is 50 gr bullets in 223.

I have used data for 50 and 55 gr bullets of different manufacturers interchangeably like sie sp's and hornandy vmax, sp or fmjbt's. So I don't think it will be a problem using that data.

How long are your HP's ? Just make sure that there is enough bullet in the neck to retain the bullet and do a work up.

How much length do you have in your mag.

Speer shows 40sp 28.0gr BL-C2 @3315 using a mag primer.
Lyman shows 40VMAX 27.1- 30.2 gr BL-C2 @3316-3723fps 40,400-50,600c.u.p.
If this stuff works well for you, I'm going to buy some for my 40VMAX. I'm currently using benchmark and am getting good velocity.

These hp are .675 long, ya there col is off and The load used for 36- 45 and the 50 grain is close. That why I was looking for different data. My mag is about 2.250.

I had good results with 50 and 55 in my axis 2. I just did load work ups for my m11, but haven't tested yet. I'll post results when I test them.

ok thanks wish I had some more powders but bl-c(2) is all I have. I'll let you know how it works.

I would also suggest the 40gr Varmageddon and some Benchmark if you can get some. Simply amazingly accurate and cheap bullets. I don't know how Nosler makes such a wonderful bullet for a bargain price.
I was given these 40s to burn up. Normally I would not go so light, I like the 50 grain sp/hp But figure there would work front my carbine for some coyote I have been seeing tracks at the state forest I hunt.
I don't want to push them to fast from my 1-8 plus I'm only using a red dot so don't need tack driver loads just ones that feed.

Do you know distance to lands. I'd load to mag length or a little bit less unless you are single loading for it.
Most 40-45 gr bullets are so short, that the entire ogive must be in the neck to get .224 in the neck.
My experience with short bullets is; seat one caliber in the neck and run a hefty charge of fast for cartridge powder behind it.

BL-C2 would not be my first choice (or even my 5th choice) for 40 gr bullets in a .223 Rem. Particularly in a 16” carbine, with a 1 in 8” twist or faster. Much preferred powders would be Accurate 2200, 2230, 2460, 2015, Hodgdon Benchmark or H-335, or Ramshot Exterminator or TAC. Even though the Sierra 40 gr HP bullets are short, make sure you have at least a bullet diameter seated in the neck of the case. Accuracy might not be the best, but you will probably find the most accuracy and reliability at the upper end of load data. You also might want to use CCI-450 or No. 41 primers as it might be a little difficult to ignite consistently with the lightweight bullet.

If your 3031 is the older longer kernel extruded version, you won't be able to get enough powder in the case to achieve top velocity potential. I hear that newer manufactured 3031 is has much shorter cut kernels of powder and may pack tighter in the case. In any event, you might still find decent accuracy with the 3031 compared to the BL-C2, though the BL-C2 will probably beat it velocity wise. 3031 is one of the few powders I have never tried, and my BL-C2 experience is limited to 55 gr bullets and heavier. Most of my 40 gr loads used TAC over the years, with Accurate 2015, 2200 and H-335 before I switched to TAC.

I'm not worried about fps anything over 3000 is fine, I just have these 100 to burn up.

I went out on Tuesday and tested some of my 50 gr blc2 loads. The temperature was 42 degrees, overcast, and had a 10-15 mph wind from almost 11 o'clock.

Start charge was 26.9 end charge 28.0 gr. No pressure signs from max charge, but got smallest groups with 27.5 to 27.8 gr charge weights. Sorry no pics left my phone home. But each charge were bug holes. I will have to go out again to verify results.

Good to here, I still have to get out to shoot my 40s. But you not getting pressure with 28gr makes me feel better lol. What brass did you use?
