Seeing some 6" barreled Pythons but I'm starting to think the Cobra target is something of a unicorn.
Anyone handled one?

I'm pretty sure he must mean king cobra 357 I doubt there would be any reason for a Target Model 38 Special nobody would hunt with that.
I have the king cobra Target with the four Plus inch barrel and it's fantastic.
I really like the grips and the sites super smooth trigger
I also love the 3-inch king cobra which is one of my go to carry guns now very accurate and super smooth very well done in stainless steel

I am not sure what hunting has to do with a target gun. Anyway, Colt did make a Python Target that was .38 Special...But you are probably right the OP likely was referring to the King Cobra Target.

I have the KC Target. Bought at a show last fall. Finally got to the range this week. Did great shooting 38s, but when I stepped up to full house 357s the grips allowed the gun to roll back and wrecked my middle finger on the trigger guard. The grips feel good, but my hand is so big my palm doesn't make contact with the checkering. When you add in that the nose of the grips doesn't curve around the guard, I had to quit after 12 rounds. The gun now has a set of Pachmayr Presentation grips, which fit my big hands. Aside from the grips, I love the gun. Grips from a late model D frame fit right on.

Pics of the differences of the grips.

Good to know about the grips.

I've not seen one of these critters (the new Target)in the wild (I've been looking hard), but I did stop in at a shop with the bright stainless Cobra (with wood stocks) … pretty gun, but hoo boy, $1249???

As an aside, still haven't seen the new Python with the 4.25" barrel out there yet … is Colt shipping 'em now?

I meant the King Cobra Target, sorry for the confusion. I've seen plenty of pictures but have yet to see one in real life.
Would like to compare it to the 4" Python, which also seems to be something of a unicorn around here.
Thanks for the replies.

Well if anyone is still looking, "American Rifleman" mag tested, reported and reviewed one in the latest issue. They had a few problems with its function. And that's one supplied by the maker. Do I hear an echo of the new Python problems?

Pythons are being shipped, but they are selling like hotcakes. I want one, but will wait for production to get caught up. The market is crazy. There is a thread at ColtForum.com that is at 1,714 replies. I am not wading through it.

As to the KC Target, I paid $980. Told the dealer I didn't pay retail at gun shows, she came back with $20 off. It was the first one I saw. My understanding is that all production is now going to the Python, so if you want a target and can find one for a decent price, buy it.
