6.5 Creedmoor for Moose

It's always better to have too much gun than just enough.

That's my opinion on hunting rifles. I killed an Alaskan bull moose, the only one I've ever gotten, with a 30-06. That's about where I'd personally put the floor for moose cartridges, and if I were to go after one again I'd take my 300 Weatherby.

If I had a 6.5CM, which I dont, and a moose tag, id reach right past that 6.5 and grab the .375 H&H that I do have. Moose tags are a once in a lifetime affair around here and a moose hunt would be expensive. I'd prefer a cartridge that can be used for opportunities other than perfect broadside shots if I'm spending the money on a once in a lifetime hunt.

My Dad shot a pretty nice moose in Alaska back about 50 years ago with the .308 he gave me some time later. Of course they're bigger now and might be further away than his was then at the opposite end of his motorized, inflatable raft. The gun did a passable job for me on a Colorado elk two years ago at 270 yds. so, it may or may not work for you.
