In a recent NRA American Rifleman that had an article on the Kimber EVO.(Raptor?)
Anyone have hands on experience with one?
I have always thought their handguns to be very nice looking, seemed to be well made but just to darn expensive and to many negative review, but never owned one myself.

I have handled one and dry fired it. The fit and finish was excellent, and the trigger was superb IMO. I would like to pick one up, but I don't know if it would fill a role for me any differently than my other carry guns.

@tarosean owns one.

Yeah, I rolled the dice when buying it. All the time thinking I was flushing money buying a new Solo = POS reputation.
However, it has turned out to be damn near the perfect carry gun despite being down rounds to some of my others in that class. Its got a Good trigger, reliable (has not had a failure in 1650rds) and great accuracy.

About the only thing I could "knock it" on is their coating/finish. I do use a Kydex holster and the Frame shows wear along the nose and below the frame rails. Not a deal breaker to me.

Here is mine topped off with 147gr HST

It's actually kind of funny that this thread came up when it did. I came across another EVO the other day, and it sparked my interest a second time. I was going to PM to see if your gun was still working out well.

I find I'm not caring much about my polymer guns anymore, and I'm thinking about ditching them in interest of other options that interest me more. I'm curious if you are going to have the trigger on yours worked on at all?

Bought mine in like new condition on GB for $545. Whatever the problems were with the Solo got figured out and corrected. It shoots anything I put in it. That price was way better than what Cabelas is selling them for NIB.

What interests me is the alloy frame, I do prefer them over polymer. At $500 or so I would get one also:)

I'm curious if you two gents have shot or compared the Kimber to a Sig P938? That's what I've been carrying now for a bit, and I like the size to capacity ratio, and prefer an all metal gun as well. Obviously there is a difference in trigger mechanisms, but I guess I'm more interested in how the recoil compares between the two, as well as the perceived size of the guns. I know I can just look at the specs, but that doesn't tell me how differently they may feel when carried or shot.

Direct comparison. No.
I have shot the 938, but not lived with it.

My "little" guns consist of:
PPK
P2000SK
XDs
P365

The Evo is just a better gun than the above. Your opinion could be diametrically opposite though.

I did a quick comparison of the Kimber and the Sig P938 Legion, since the Legion is the one I own. It looks like the Sig is slightly shorter, but slightly taller than the Kimber. 2 oz lighter on the Sig, but I actually think an extra ounce or two might be a good idea on a gun this small just to help soak up recoil. But honestly I doubt 2 oz would mean much practically. The Kimber has a slightly longer barrel length. A standard P938 with the flush fit magazine is a touch shorter than the Kimber.

So I think the two are pretty much a wash. Same capacity, very similar sizes. I guess a SAO trigger with safety vs the striker trigger is the only functional difference. I mean it is a big difference though. Different grips might come into play.

I have no experience with the PPK or P2000SK. The XDs, well we've discussed before. It works, but eh. I have a P30SK that I like, but frankly I have hardly carried it since I bought my Legion.

I'm not too worried about capacity, and honestly I'm wondering if my XDs-45 really serves a purpose any more. There are 9mm hard cast and monolithic bullet designs that would probably suffice just fine for woods critters around here, GD and HST JHPs along with others makes the 9mm pretty effective, and honestly if I'm wandering in a place with critters bigger than mountain lions, I'll probably be open carrying a 1911, a 10mm, or a 357 magnum revolver.

So I'm wondering why I still own the XDs again. Maybe I'll trade it toward one of these Kimbers. I could probably trade the P30SK also. Though, at least that one has higher capacity.

I have shot the P938 and find the recoil comparable to the EVO. I own a Kimber Micro 9 and a SIG 238. Obviously the 238 is a bit softer shooting. My recommendation is never to carry either the Micro 9 or the P238 in anything other than some type of belt holster if you intend to carry it cocked and locked aka Condition 1. Those thumb safeties are too easy to accidentally disengage inside a pocket at which point you’ve got one ready to go in your pocket with the safety off and muzzle pointed at some pretty valuable real estate. Just my 2 cents!

Roger that on a quality holster. I carry my P938 in a Stealth Gear IWB holster. I do not pocket carry it. While the safety could still get knocked off, the trigger is totally covered. View media item 2370
