12 gauge vs trapdoor 45-70

I honestly don't have any experience with trapdoor, but plenty with the shotgun and .45-70. Of course you are very limited to very low pressure loads in the trapdoor, where with a 12 gauge I ask first...what length, and which projectile? Because of the variety of rounds available, given that information I would without hesitation go to the 12 gauge...not to mention likely being able to get a 2nd shot in quicker than manipulating the trap door.

A Winchester hollow point 2 3/4

A 405 grs lead bullet at 1300 fps will.kill buffalo. And it has. Plenty of buffalo were killed with surplus US Army trapdoor rifles and ammunition. Far, far better than a 12 ga foster slug which have a reputation for poor penetration on larger game. The 45-70 load will also be accurate and effective well beyond the range of a smoothbore with slugs.
