It's just a shame that my grandchildren will never enjoy the freedoms I did

Yes, the 1960s was a more gun friendly time. I remember the local bargain basement store had a huge rack of surplus 1903 rifles for sale. Pick one out, pay and leave. No paper work.
And surplus 45 acp were available. My Ithaca cost me $40 when a club member offered it to me. An all original gun, not parts guns like are sold today, and over priced. (Sorry if you bought one):)
Was "da switch" for real?
Yes, in 1979 a new M16A1 Carbine sold for $631.26 plus a $200 tax stamp. After the ban, prices settled around $12,000 to $15,000 when sold on Subguns, in 2011. A few years later (or was it 1 year?) prices started rising quickly. Todays current investment prices seem to be holding around $25,000 for an orginal Colt M16A1.

I was telling a buddy at work that original Colt M16's were bringing in the neighborhood of $30K yesterday ... his mouth dropped open and he couldn't believe it so I pulled one up on GunBroker, it was $31K and the bidding hadn't stopped yet!

He asked WHY WOULD ANYONE PAY THAT?

I asked him why anyone would pay $300K for a house ... or $40K for a new truck (he had just bought a new truck) ...
He said "Well, they were asking more but that was as low as I could get them to go"

I told him, there are only so many transferable machine guns, they aren't making any more for ordinary citizens. Its supply and demand, our free market in action!
... last I heard they are still building new trucks anyone can buy!

This dealer has for sale many full autos. He buys and sells many. https://dealernfa.com

Sorry to AR15 guys for hijacking the thread. :( Keep the photos comming.
A very good friend of mine has the Class 3 bug. Shooting both his M14 and M16 rifles brought back some memories. I have kicked the idea around but just never felt enough push to do it. Not even a matter of justifying it to my wife but justifying it to myself. :) I guess for me the occasional enjoyment is part of having some great friends who share their stuff.

My Daniel Defense M4A1 Carbine. This is from their earlier run, when they still sent them out from the factory with Magpul MOE stocks. Free-float RIS II rails and a 14.5" barrel pinned with an A2-style flash hider to a length of 16" to avoid NFA shenanigans. My best friend Tom purchased this rifle shortly after arriving back from Kandahar. He wanted a rifle that as closely emulated the rifle he carried while serving in the 1st Ranger Battalion as an 11B as possible. This was what he found; it came from the store with nothing no accessories other than the rubber rail covers. Tom put an EOTech and Magpul AFG on there after the fact. The PMAG you see in the photo is one I strongly suspect that he or one of his buddies "lost" during a live-fire at HAF or even during their deployment, judging by the camo netting paint job.

After he passed away in a car accident shortly after his medical discharge from the Army, Tom's parents passed his rifle on to me. For a long time, I struggled with the idea of modifying it at all. Eventually I moved past this. For the moment I've only thrown on some Magpul Gen 2 BUIS and just moments ago mounted a Holosun HM3X Magnifier behind the EOTech. In the future I'd like to look into a few more buttstock options, scout lights, and a good quick-adjust sling.

My latest build.

It is a 12 5" BCM upper on a Spikes Lower. I may upgrade the optic to a Aimpoint T1 with my Trump bucks. I'm not sure though. My very slight astigmatism makes the EO techs a little easier on my eye as I get a little older.

Now as soon as WA get out of lockdown maybe I can get it sighted in.

Well, apparently, I can't embed from Google Photos, but here's a link... https://photos.app.goo.gl/3PzQDujVCVs1TyELA

My franken rifle. I built this thing not too long after Katrina. It's the first one I built. I've built many and sold them, but this one I don't want to part with. It doesn't look like anything special, but it's built the way I like it.

Levang linear compensator. I don't know what it compensates for, but it throws the noise and gas away from me.

Man, I was having a hard time remembering where I got the barrel from. It's a non hammer forged 14.5" barrel from Bravo Company.

Model 1 Sales (I know, lol) straight tube. It's pretty light and very comfortable.

Daniel Defense upper receiver, because I KNEW it would be right. Internals are from Bravo Company.

The lower is a Spike's because I like the cool red spider and it's a low shelf. Yeah, the day may never come, but one day I might be able to put it to use.

The trigger is a Geissele SSA-E and the stock is a first gen MagPul UBR.

The sight is an ACOG TA44, 1.5X. I wanted something as fast as a red dot but offer these aging eyes some help. I really can't speak highly enough of this little scope. Unless you've shot with one, you really can't appreciate it. It isn't sensitive to the distance you eye is from the scope. You literally use it like a red dot.

Have you tried an ACOG. I went that route for a few reasons. I don't get along with red dots to well any longer either.

I have been thinking about the LED ACOG. I have used ACOGS before and I found I prefer either no magnification or a LPVO. But I love how clear an ACOG is.

My astigmatism is really mild for now and if I look at the target and not the dot it is a lot crisper. Of course a ACOG would be great on my 6920. Now I have something else to think on LOL.

Built this last night and ran 400 rounds through her today. Ran like a clock. https://photos.app.goo.gl/eC1Wx2FydkJ5qQDQ6

Barrel - Ballistic Advantage 10.5"
Handguards - MOE SL
Gas block - Yankee Hill, flip up front sight.
Upper receiver - Mas Defense slick side
Lower receiver - New Frontiers carbon fiber (got it brand new for a little over $20, I had to give it a try)
Grip - MagPul K2
Trigger - Geissele SSA-E
Optic - Trijicon TA-44, 1.5X ACOG
Optic mount - American Defense quick detach
Buffer tube - KAK
Brace - KAK Shockwave Blade
Charging handle - BCM Gunfighter
BCG - BCM
Buffer - H2, but I'm gonna back of to an H buffer. It's ejecting at around 3-4:00 and feels a little "sluggish."
LPK - sans FCG from Aero

What is kinda funny is that for what the scope and trigger cost, I could have built 3 more guns.

Looks beefy. Nice! We aren't even allowed to go to our club range...........ugg...........

Newest acquisition. Too bad all the ranges round here are closed down...
Diamondback DB15 EB, Vortex SPARC optic.

Picked up an 18" Larue Tactical Stealth 2.0 recently. Older version with keymod rail, but it was a leftover from a GSA contract, new, and unfired. Came naked, so it needed to be dressed up some. Surefire brake, (so I can mount the can I'm gonna get one day) BCM VFG, a sling attachment I had laying around, the Primary Arms 1-8, and the Surefire Scout Light off my .308 Aero I traded off, and a new Vickers Blue Force sling. I'll call it good for now. Just need to get her out, and zero it for some of my IMI 77 gr OTM... I do want to get a Daniel Defense grip for it one day, whenever they ain't all sold out... Can't find the ones without the built in trigger guard anywhere right now...
