What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a knife?

About $49 for a lowly Kershaw Leek :uhoh:

To me, that was expensive for a knife. I haven't reached the stage where I enjoy collecting fine knives the same way I like having nice guns. For me, I have a Buck 112 which is my EDC knife. If I break it, I'll send it in for repair and maybe get a different knife for that time period in which I would be knife-less. I'd like to get into knife making but my knowledge of the subject is next to nothing beyond basic metalworking.

I won't say I envy your fine knives yet, but I'll say I envy your appreciation for fine knives ;)

I don't think I have ever paid more than ~$50 for a knife and no more than ~$100 for a multi-tool. Most of my knives are less than $20. But I also have rarely paid full price either willing and able to wait for a really good deal. I have also started making my own but that is still a learning in process.

I'm with you here. Right now, buying a fancy knife would bring me the same amount of satisfaction as buying a fancy hammer. Sure, I'd have the coolest hammer on the block but It's still a hammer... I do admire the craftsmanship of the really good knifes but I can't justify the expense... yet.

My price range when I was accumulating them was $300-$700. I sold most off and kept a few that hold meaning and they are pretty simple low $ pieces from some makers that I can use. The Cheatham I still have among these.

Double dog wow on that Cheatham and the sheath!!!

I collect FS daggers - I came across "my first" 1st pattern and traded probably $1800 worth of guns and knives (at least 4x boxed Cold Steel large knives.)

The 1st came in a ragged 2nd pattern sheath. I discovered the 1st pattern knife used a unique sheath, you couldn't just set it in a 2nd pattern sheath.
A fellow collector from Norway had an original sheath and I traded his for a nice 2nd pattern dagger and sheath I owned, worth about $500 mas or menus.

I try not to think about what I paid for it $2300, or so -
If I had sold the items for their cash value, I could have waited and likely have found myself a nicer condition 1st.
But, that's just not how it works for me, lol.

The 1st is on the far right with some other English daggers and a smatchet designed by Fairbairn in the center.
That's quite the collection you have there. Really like them all but most especially that smatchet.

Was a lot of money at the time for a production folder, and I carried it as a duty knife. It's a carbon fiber and Ti double action auto. The blade can be opened manually or automatically with a hidden release.

It's a sturdy stout bladed workhorse that's held up well to abuse. If I knew it was to become a collectable I would have been more careful with it. lol

Whether it was to support a knife maker you know, to support knife rights in general or in your state, or it’s just a design that really trips your trigger, what’s the most amount of money you’ve ever spent in a knife?

This is purely out of curiosity. Pictures are surely welcome as are the reasoning behind the purchase.

I've paid $425 for a Strider SnG and $450 for a custom knife (got a knifemaker's discount on that one). That's the most I've paid.

With my own $? A Randall #14, $250 in 1987. I have a Emerson folder that I was told cost around $300, but it was issued, so I guess taxpayers paid for it. I also have several custom knives that were given to me by the makers. I was also gifted the Chris Reeve SF Yarborough knife from my unit in a shadow box when I retired. No idea what the cost was/is, but I'm sure it wasn't cheap.

@Toml
Was that geared towards getting me to answer my own question, or am I missing something?

Not at all. I have trouble posting from an iPhone so I tried to using your quotes...

I paid ~ $ 200 in 2003 for a left-hand Emerson SARK-BTS. The safety tip blade is important to me since the knife is leashed to my PFD in case its needed while kayaking.

I have a Puma boot knife/sheath that cost ~ $ 60 in the early 70s. High dollar at the time. It's stout and functional, but not anything I needed or use.

Ah, yeah, I post from an iPhone frequently also. It is a bit irritating. The latest operating system is not my favorite. It does this unnecessary zoom in thing when typing that I haven't been able to turn off, the autocorrect is mediocre to the point I frequently post, and then see some weird erroneous word later on, and if I want to leave a space between sentences, like I hit the Enter key, it doesn't auto capitalize any more. I miss my iPhone 5.

On that note though, I guess I should play also. Up until a few days ago, the most I paid was $335 for a discontinued knife I really wanted for carry. I found it on ebay in new condition, and since the blade length fills a very specific and needed niche for me, and I like the design and manufacturer's quality, I decided to jump on it.

However last week that changed. I was a little reluctant to share this as I don't actually have the knife in hand yet, and I don't typically buy stuff based on asthetic reasons alone. I like functional stuff, and don't need a massive collection of unused knives sitting around. I just got rid of a bunch of unused knives a few days ago. I'd rather have money in the bank, so all the knives I've been buying lately are ones I carry and use. This one though...………….. I just find the design very compelling and beautiful to look at.

Surprisingly, the reviews I've read all say the same thing. It's certainly not the best EDC knife, and it's a bit more modern art than hard use, but it is surprisingly useable and practical for some basic cutting tasks. Honestly, it will be more of a fidget knife for me more than anything, but I may carry it here and there. If nothing else, it will sit on my coffee table and be used when I need a knife at home, which is fairly frequently.

I put it on layaway with Blade HQ, and will have it in 2.5 months. $360 after taxes.

Picture is from the manufacturer's website. WE Knives Arrakis, designed by Elijah Isham. 3.5" M390 blade. All titanium handle, with a frame lock and steel lock bar insert. I'm looking forward to trying it out, and if I decide it's not for me, I'll sell it, or give it to my nephew when he's old enough.

Good Googly Moogly.
One of my best heavy big fixed blades, a Damascus Bowie $80 shipped from maker overseas.
Another lighter Damascus Bowie $35 at a pawn shop.
Best field dressers a 4" German. Gift
An older 50s/60s Bone handle 6" German mini Bowie skinner, $25 at pawn shop.
Most paid, $100 for Hibben Old West Bowie just cause.

Bought a Benchmade Infidel at a PX about 11 years ago in a far away place. $289.99 plus whatever AAEFES charges extra. Won't spend that much or close to it on a knife again. But with the uniform and young, dumb and enlisted, had to get something like that.

The Inkosi has landed. Though early, I think I will like it. One thing for sure, when they say Large Inkosi, they mean large. Not huge by any means, but definitely large. Like that blade! Will sharpen when needed quite nicely I think.

I keep thinking I don't like those blade profiles and then, I think about average uses by me and ease of sharpening and think again.... again.

If I ever loose my Sebenza, I'd consider one.

Todd.
