The CZ 75B in .40 S&W has long been a back-burner steel frame tank, like the 1911-A1/.45 ACP, that has been moved up due to the fact that they were discontinued in 2018 but still available.

All my .40's are GLOCK G23.4's, and have a surplus of .40/180 gr. ammo.

Have found'em for $525 on line.

Need it like another hole in my wallet, but for a long-term want/keep - the price ain't that bad.

Heard good things about the CZ 75B in general, and being 35 oz. with a 4.5" Bbl., should be a sweet shooter.

And am fine w/ ten rounds in a .40. (although hear SP-01 12-round mags fit)

How are the triggers and how do they shoot?

Questions/Comments/Concerns appreciated.

Don't know why they'd be any different than 9mm CZ-75 triggers - that is, variable from individual gun to individual gun OOB, but uniformly very good if worked over.

I think your reasoning is sound.

However, this may be a typo, but he P-01 is a compact gun and mags for that won't fit a full size.

The SP-01 is a full size.

Can you manipulate the safety easily with your hand, or do you plan on shooting it DA/SA?

CZs and their clones are good guns, but the safety position isn't for everyone.

Never even handled one.

But don't seem to have any problem w/ either my 1911-A1 "MilSpec" or Sig P-938.

Also wondered how they hold up to the higher power of the .40 round.

I'm a long time 1911 shooter and have been tempted by the CZ 75 for quite some time, but the double action trigger reach is too long for me, and I can't comfortably reach the thumb safety. The CZ 75's thumb safety pivot point is about where the front leading edge of a Colt teardrop thumb safety is.

I’ve got a handful of cz's, including the 75B in .40, and haven’t had any issues with any of them. Recoil is well controlled and I can honestly say I can’t tell a difference between the 40 and the 9mm’s I own. It’s all steel and you won’t have any problems with the 40. Trigger is decent and gets better with use. I’ve probably put 8,000 to 10,000 rounds through these pistols (combined, not individually) and haven’t found a gun I’d rather shoot.

For the ultimate send it off to Cajun Gun works. They make a very good gun great.

I have a couple of 9mm CZ pistols and I like them, but I rented a .40 CZ 75 once and wasn't terribly impressed. Like a lot of guns designed around the 9mm that were later adapted to the .40 cartridge, they're better in the original chambering.

If I wanted an inexpensive gun to shoot up a pile of .40 ammo I'd look at police surplus SIGs, preferably a P229.

Thinking about it carefully.... I really like my CZ's and clones.... but my favorite 40 is probably my police surplus Sig 229.

It is finish-challenged, so I got it with the box and three magazines for a bid of $380, IIRC.

As soon as you pick it up you realize what a high-quality pistol it is.

(The finish doesn't really matter; it's a stainless steel slide.)

Was lookin' for a steel framed service pistol, single or dbl stack, in .40.

The CZ 75B fits the bill.

What other pistol would?

S&W 4006 would meet the definition, and is a great gun. Stainless slide and frame. Out of production, but a ton floating around the used market right now.

Beretta and Sig tend to get mentioned, and are going to be nice guns, but have aluminum frames, not the steel you specify.

SIG makes/made some stainless frame variants of 226/229 I believe. Several people make/made 1911s in .40.

Thanks, but have the 1911-A1 in .45 ACP already... and was kinda lookin' for a different character.

As I look at your avatar...

:D

Thought about a used SW4006 as well.

Just the New/Discontinued thing, and, well... the CZ 75B is almost High-Power cool.

Wish I still had my CZ40B! That gun had the best trigger of any factory CZ I have ever felt!! I think they were trying to impress Colt, had the best builder making these or something, but they were better...

Love mine in 45. 40 would be a no go for me, I can't think of any gun chambered in 40 that I wouldn't like more in 9mm.

The very first gun I ever carried was a CZ75B in .40 S&W. CZ is a very well-made gun and it's heavy enough that I never ever noticed any issue with the recoil carrying a .40. In fact in fact I thought the "snappy recoil" on a .40 was a myth.

I occasionally regret selling mine but I made a decision take carry only striker-fired guns with no manual safety.

I carried my CZ in condition 2 and never felt that it was unsafe.

I don't even know for sure if the Mec Gar magazines are still available but if you get a CZ I strongly suggest you stock up on some Mec Gar magazines because if they're not making the .40 anymore the magazines for it are probably going to become hard to find

The philosophy of use, like you, is the sticking point.

Except for a Micro (P-938), Carry pieces are .40 and .45 ACP GLOCKs.

And Heavy Metal is a 1911-A1 .45 ACP, because of the trigger.

Which puts this pistol in the "Thing" category.

Nice, and not too expensive... but a thing none the less.

Brainstorming to move it out of that category.

I'm going to go with your terminology and say that I am committed enough to my philosophy of use that I wouldn't buy another CZ75B.

Having said that, if my circumstances ever change and I choose to buy another one in 40 Smith & Wesson I wouldn't buy one until I was absolutely positive that I could find enough magazines last me the rest of my life.

And the reason I say that is because if they're discontinued I suspect at the Mec Gar .40 are going to become scarce
