This all started with a "hankering for a Hi Power" thread. Got a Mk III from 1989, changed the grips and had Novak put on night sights. I finally broke down and had it refinished in CP II Dusk by CCR, with a basic nickel CP II for the barrel. I also paid extra to have two dings smoothed out/removed. Looks fabulous.

Now I need to take it shooting. BHP-1.jpg BHP-2.jpg

Yes it does.

I have been considering Novak sights on one of my HPs. Have you shot yours yet? I would be very interested to see a close-up and here a review.
Tell us about the grips while you are at it. Please.

The grips look to be Hogues. They are nice but thicker than Spegels. They generally fit pretty well. Novak knows what they are doing and if you like their sights then they are a great choice. I like Novaks ok but there are other more modern designs I prefer these days.

Yes, I shot it plenty already. Probably 500-600 rounds before refinishing. Novaks did a great and quick job, including cutting out the front dovetail and reparkerizing the slide. I'm a fan of Novak sights, but I could have gone another route. The grips are Hogue Kingwood. They are pretty thin and fit my hand great. It truth, I really liked the look of the wood.

I had heard BHPs have amazing ergonomics. And as soon as I picked one up I knew I'd be getting one. Mine, from 1989, also had a ring hammer, the magazine disconnect removed, and a truly sweet trigger. Amazing crisp break. Its a keeper and my favorite gun.

that is gorgeous! the bhp is the best looking pistol ever made, imo. looking forward to the shooting report.

I miss my bhp,

I'd agree with that statement pretty much, but I will say that Novaks as far as the looks complement the classic lines of some pistols, in this case the BHP.

Good to see CCR is still doing such nice work.

I have Novaks on a few BHPs and 1911s. They are great sights. They look good and they work much better than OEM. I just wish they offered a U Notch on BHP sights.

Such as ...?
(Thread drift caution - again to the tune of Cat Scratch Fever!)

Not to take away from this excellent gun but I like Heinie sights and Harrison 1911 sights, Don Williams 1911 sights and Yost Custom sights better these days. Most of these will cost more than Novak’s. If you are using 1911 sights the smith doing the install has to be able to get the point of aim point of impact correct for the BHP vs a 1911. You need to use the correct heights and test it.

The OPs setup is excellent and should serve him well. CCRs finishes hold up well. Their prep and application is good which is the most important part of a Cerakote type finish. When properly applied they do well. Again to the OP congrats. Well done.

I have Heine sights on my CC weapon, a mini SAO 1911. Big dot over a little dot. Those would have been fine. Clearly, I like the ergonomics, shooting, and LOOK of my BHP. The Novaks fit the bill very nicely, but I could have gone another route.

CCR was an excellent choice for refinishing. Over the years, I don't believe I've ever seen poor workmanship come out of their shop.

Novak sights as a matter of taste, trends, and timing. I remember when they were so popular that S&W paid to have license made versions on all their semiautomatic pistols. They fell from favor a bit when folks realized that they were so snag-free that it was difficult to use the rear sight to rack the slide for one-handed operation.

Nice bit of work you had done on your Hi-Power! Like the sights, the new finish, and the grips. I have a pair of Hogues for my Hi-Power for those occasions when I want to dress it up a bit!
