Scope mount recommendations for AR

There should be a LOT more air under that scope. Taller rings/mount. Something 1.4” to 1.6”, as standard for AR mounts. Those rings are not meant for an AR, and would have to have a half inch riser to be useable on an AR. You’ll be better off to order a new unimount.

Aero Precision $69
Weaver thumbnut 1" $45
Weaver Premium 1" $89 made in USA.
These are proper mounts, but not quick detach, save for the thumb nut

quick detach really is not a must. We use this for simple plinking. Nothing more. Now for the home defense SBR, they are a must. I’ll look into these. Thanks.

yeah deff need something new. I think I’m going to look into the aero precision mount. Seems to be repeated here the most.

yeah that’s been one of my concerns. With the current mounts the scope is uber lower. So low I can not even have a rear iron sight.
With those rings you need a riser (or risers) under them.

Yep.

A few close ups of options.

RRA, this was an included package option when I purchased my rifle years ago. At 5’8” my daughter shoots with her stock semi-retracted but without need of a more forward position.

Aero Precision Standard mount, around $55 on sale. They offer several others with offset/cantilever if needed. My son being 6’1” and shooting a fully extended ACS-L on a carbine extension did not require the scope to be moved further forward.

Upper most mount with camo scope is an SWFA SSALT, similar to the Burris PEPPR, $35 on sale if memory serves. My wife is 5’11” but prefers a fairly compact position, a few detents from fully retracted, but again needs no more than a more forward rail position to achieve proper eye relief.

This was the most helpful by far. Seeing those setups gives me a good idea of where I need to be higher and placement wise. Thanks

Without taking away anything from the Aero, a large contributor to its popularity is its lower price. Among “good mounts,” it’s less expensive than most by $25-50,

Price and the Aero not being an absolute brick are the reasons I finally gave them the nod. In car terms they are the Honda Civic of mounts; small/cheap/reliable. Aero is by no means the gold standard, just the base rung of utility meets goal. You don’t get a step up for nothing but I agree with the above statement that it is good and cheap enough.

@Skylerbone - I’d even give it more credit than Honda Civic.

I’ll certainly say, the Aero mount deserves a lot more of its popularity than the Burris PEPR had a handful of years ago, but the Burris was available and well advertised. At the same time, the Nikon M and P mounts were terrible products, but they were cheap and well marketed at the time and sold like hot cakes.

I have found the Aero mounts to be fragile. Mine didn't hold the scope well and broke just from regular range use.

Thisisyourcaptain, take a look at the Leuold mount. Sturdy, not too heavy and a good value for the money. I'm using one with a Leupold 1.24-4x and like it very much- more than I thought I would.

I wanted to have the MBUS mounted on the rifle so I could find them when needed and the Bug Buster scope is stingy on eye relief. I looked until I found this on Amazon for about $12.00. My arms are short so my eye relief is sometimes hard to get set with some scopes. I had to turn the mount backwards but I was able to accomplish all of my needs with this set up.
