Front up guns, or when your primary isn't.

Predictably, when there is a thread about carrying a 2nd gun it generates negative posts about "not living in a war zone" or "good area" ect...
Either one sees the value in having the option of a 2nd gun that can be in hand without revealing carry or accessible to non-dominant hand or they don't.
I had a factory "premium" HP SD round squib load that lodged in my barrel during practice, that pistol was out of use till I could drive the bullet from the barrel.
I had a extractor break off the edge during practice, caused a nasty jam and the pistol would not eject brass properly till the extractor was replaced.
If a squib load or part breakage should happen rendering primary pistol inoperable it would be "nice" to access another pistol quickly.
Location nor time of day are not factors in the usefulness of having a 2nd pistol available.
If your one & only gun is in your dominant hand pocket you will not be able to quickly access it with your weak hand if needed.
I carry a Glock 23 IWB, putting my hand on it without revealing I'm carrying isn't possible; so the time I had a "shady" looking guy keep walking toward me in grocery parking lot despite me shaking my head "No" then verbally saying "NO, NO, NO" he kept closing the distance. On that day, I decided that in the future I would have the option to discretely put my hand on a pistol in a situation like that in case asking for money turned into "demanding".

This is wear a J frame shines

There was an article a "few" years [ decades ] back about a man approaching his house when he was attacked by 2 men and they attempted a carjacking with him in tow.

He drew his only gun,a High Standards O/U .22 magnum derringer 2 shot double action.

He shot and killed one,the other got away with one round in him.

He won,yes it's not ANYTHING that we could want to emulate.

BUT = we won.

I own 2 of those pistols and yes, they have been in my pockets a few times.

Depending on the season, my EDC is a Colt LW Commander or a Kahr P9, each with a reload. Always in front pocket is a Kahr .380. Depending on the situation and the level of perceived threat, I like being able to have my hand on the .380 as opposed to an obvious motion towards my primary.

just because someone has different ideas than you doesn't mean that person has no training, poor training, hasn't given any thought to these matters or hasn't done some sort of risk assessment.

It's entirely possible for someone to be trained, to have given serious, well-reasoned thought to the matters at hand, to have done a thorough risk assessment and still come to greatly different conclusions than you. That's because he's a different person than you and has different circumstances.
Absolutely. No argument.

You know, I don't really feel like giving a whole damn dissertation and defending it to my comitte every time I make a comment but I'm beginning to think I have to.
Well, in post after post, you have seemed to continue to fail to consider the existence of one serious risk for which your "locked doors" and "hammer the accelerator" tactic, which would otherwise be the thing to do, could not work. We have mentioned it more than once.

To wit:

The problem arises when the armed perp has entered your car unexpectedly before your passenger or intended passenger could close the door.

Driving away with perp in the car is what he will want.

Just such a scenario, which based on an actual incident, was featured in an episode of The Best Defense some years ago. In that episode, the victim was killed.

Some years ago, very similar thing happened near where I live when a woman was dropping off a passenger outside a Whole Foods store. The victim was take to an ATM, and was brought back unharmed. The police said she was very lucky.

Want to mitigate the risk? A gun would be a good way to do it.

On The Best Defense, a knife was proposed. Personally, I don't like that idea.

Want to accept the risk without mitigation? Go ahead. The choice is personal.

And it is what I usually do.
