I came down with Pneumonia (GF has it) or the flu or something last Friday and missed out on hunting and when my buddy called and asked if I wanted to go out one last time yesterday before season ended I said yes.

We started off with his 1yo beagle and pushed a patch of woods we usually get one race out of and nothing. He did find a pretty nice deadhead that I have no idea how the person didn't find. The entire deer was found laying on a pile of down trees. I didn't feel like carrying it so I left it lay. After about 30min we decided to go ask a farmer to push his woods and field and he said yes. We started out walking some very tall grass and kicking bushes while the dog worked. I walked over and kicked a pile of brush and out shot the rabbit. The dog tracked it for about 8-10min and lost it in a hole. We walked around there some more and just way too many holes. We then decided to head to larger farm with some bushy creek bottoms and ridge tops and had a pretty fun time there.

Arriving at the other farm we headed behind the house and onto the brushy ridges and the dog found a rabbit. He tracked it for awhile but we never saw it. I could hear it in the brush but there is alot of farm cats and visibility was maybe 30yards. We began walking some more and I spotted it just ahead of us. My buddy put the dog on it and the race was on. Down the hill, along the river, up the other side and my buddy yells its coming my way. I run down the hill and in one swoop jump the little creek and here comes the rabbit right at me. Man is this thing moving! It runs between my buddy and I and up the hill in front of him where he cuts loose his Remington 28ga auto loader. The dog found the rabbit for us and we moved on. We hiked further and further in and began using it as a scouting trip for deer hunting and found some great ground. We decided to make our way back to the field edges and my buddy and I began kicking bushes and out shoots another rabbit. I call the dog over but he wants nothing to do with it, probably because he's tired. We make our way back to the ridge tops and I tell my buddy lets get him on the rabbit I lost earlier and sure enough I take a few steps forward and there goes the rabbit. The dog raced the rabbit for several minutes and then into a large dirt mound full of holes.

We headed to another farm and decided to try our luck there and walked probably a good mile and not a single rabbit. Going back to the truck the dog hit a track and was gone. 150yards out he chased it into a giant pile of junk and couldn't get it out. It was at this point we decided to call it a day and wrap up our 2020 season. Hurry up woodchuck season!

We have one more week left . I will probably only get to go one more time . We jumped 7 yesterday and got 6 . My dogs were not running very good , so I was surprised we got 6 . The week before we got 16 , our best day for harvested rabbits . We are up to 53 rabbits this year , we were at 65 last year .

My buddy had to leave yesterday because he could not get his wind . He had the flu 2 weeks earlier and a young boy that lives next to where we hunt , that we always invite to hunt with us had it last week , but being young , he looked ok . He wanted me to take a picture of him and my nephew , with the dogs and rabbits on the tailgate , but I told him that I am not touching your phone . I used my phone and sent him a picture .

I just bought a predator caller and I am going to do some predator hunting on my property until it gets hot . My nephew has killed a bobcat and I have got a fox so far . Trying to help my rabbit population a little bit .

Yeah, our coyote, fox and cat population is crazy, but its so hard to kill them and no time for trapping.

I never had a dog in my hunting years so rabbits were an often hit or miss on upland game hunting days.
A real fond memory of my teen years, 50’s was working in a bakery in Cincinnati Ohio. One of the owners was a rabbit hunter and just about this time of year he would take his season results and make a dish he called Hasenpfeffer. Cooked in big wedding cake pans in the revolving oven it was a lunch time treat for all 20 or so employees.
The post of season catch of 53 rabbits brought it to mind.

CRP on old deer spot. Hilly w woods too.
Used to hunt it no dogs. Get at least a couple, often limit out.
Only hunt after deer season, snow, and w 20 ga.
Had adjacent property too.

Get about 20 a yr and call it good.
CRP was changed to tree farm.
Fenclines and ditches on other places removed.

Coyotes increased too.

Rabbits an uncommon sight there now.

My local deer spot had some too, but houses around w cats.
Coyotes been shot by neighbors, haven't seen one in deer season last 2 yrs.
But also no bumping bunnies anymore.

So..............didn't hunt for rabbit once this yr.
Think I went once last yr in bad weather, got rained out.

Used to have a good time putting in the distance and brush busting.
I worked hard for my rabbits, got pretty torn up too.
But man, back in the day, buddy and I used to get em.

The ol lady was complaining about no rabbits in the freezer.

Been a long time.

Inlaws run beagles and kill a bunch on state ground.
For them it's numbers.
Which is fine I guess.

I'd be happy to get to the Jeep dead tired w 2 bunnies in my vest.
I'm older now.

A heavy game vest used to be cool. LOL
