This morning I was able to pick up a used Euroarms Rogers & Spencer revolver. I've read about them for years but this is the first one I saw. It has a rather different feel from the usual Colts, Remingtons and ROAs. It's been lightly used, the bore and chambers are immaculate and it locks up tight. The seller included the load he found most accurate.

The R&S revolvers have a reputation as target guns, accurate and less prone to caps jamming the works. I like the wider space around each nipple making it easier to use a capper. I hope to get to the range this week and see what I can do with it.

They're quite popular in Revolver competition in the North South Skirmish Association. There are a couple smiths in our organization that can take a really good revolver and make it perfect.

What is this accurate load?

The load he suggested was 22 grs. 3F Goex and a .457 round ball. I keep a good supply of .457s to feed the ROA. Forgot to ask if he used a lubed felt wad between the powder and ball but I always do. He said with that load to hold the center of the target. If nothing else, it's certainly a good starting point.

One thing it does share with the ROA is the base pin is held in by a cross bolt thru the frame. Neglecting to make sure it’s correctly position can result in pulling the base pin free and actually bending it while seating a bullet. Unlike the ROA the turn button for that on the R&S is on the left side of the frame and easy to miss.
Ask me how I know.

Very accurate. I have a pair and they are extremely accurate with both cap n ball and BPC loads in cartridge conversion cylinders. In fact, one of the pair is the most accurate pistol that I own.

Enjoy!

I went to Mass this morning and got my Lenten ashes. I feel that my Lenten fast should involve not buying more guns for a while. After all I old and starting to sell off ! :(
Anyway I would have won this one as I covet it greatly . Nobody has noticed it or bid on it , Good Luck my friends , my loss is your gain

The question you have to ask yourself is “what would Jesus do?” And I think you will rapidly come to the conclusion that Jesus would not pass up a smoking hot deal on a first class revolver....

I really wish someone would manufacture the Rogers & Spencer again. I shoot mine(all Euroarms) sparingly as I am also concerned about replacement parts. I put in a small supply of parts, which included two mainsprings, about 15 years ago when they were still available. One of my guns has a very heavy mainspring and I decided to replace it rather than cut down the original. Imagine my dismay when both replacement mainsprings proved to be a trifle short. They installed fine until you cocked the gun and the spring would slip off the hammer roller.
One thing I like about the Rogers & Spencer is their lack of susceptibility ability to fouling, which you can probably attribute to gas ring on the cylinder. They will shoot as long as you care to.

Gordon, It was kind of you to include that link. If I didn't have so many C&B revolvers (even after giving a couple away to beginners as gifts) I would go for it. Hope someone here can take advantage of the sale.

I haven't had a chance to get to the range yet due to weather and a certain amount of age. I'll post a report when I do.

NOTICE IT HAS AN ADJUSTABLE REAR SIGHT AND MATCHING TALL FRONT ONE !!! Also it is brand new in box !!! from a long time ago ! I would have bid whatever it took to win it . Shipping at $20 is reasonable. . I would wait till the last day and bid $401.99 and watch it there is a 15 minute rule . I usually win what I want. If some one here could get that pistol for $350 shipped it would really please me :) I would have gone $500 in my avarice :)

Very interesting. Exactly the same here! For me, it's been Colt Frontiers. But enough. At least until late April!!
I am unfortunately much the same in my GB bidding. I do not expect to get a deal, but rather, a chance to pay what an item is worth to me (right now).

I have been outbid, but the winner definitely knew he had bumped up against a fool as big as himself.:D

Thanks for the tip. I bid, but it became to rich for my blood. Looks like it’s headed over $400, but still a good deal for NIB.

I believe the roger and spencer has a gas ring. If so, does it work well with eliminating cylinder binding?
