Herter's Ammo

Depends what you mean. Herters steel cased rifle ammo is rebranded Tula IIRC and is garbage IME. Herters brass handgun ammo is good IMO and I think it’s fiocchi USA? Maybe someone else. In any case it’s been fine for me.

I used it for .38 .357 seems alright for me. Groups at least as well as I do for what it's worth but the .357 bullets seem inconsistent, like they are all the same weight but maybe not the same manufacturer.

Good for practice and maybe light work around the yard probably even okay for carry but wouldn't expect it win any prizes.

I chronographed some Herters .223 55 gr. a couple of weeks ago, The headstamp was just LC 223, no date . Came out of a 16" barrel at 2948 fps SD of 14.6 I didn't check for accuracy, I was just breaking in a new AR. BTW it was brass case with crimped primers.

I’ve fired a few thousand rounds of Herter’s brass cased 9mm and have no complaints. I would say it’s on par with something like Winchester White Box as far as reliability, cleanliness, and accuracy go. All of mine was bought before the acquisition of Cabelas by Bass Pro and I’ve heard they switched manufacturers since then though so my experience may be moot now.

I used their .380 for target practice, and it was fine. Brass ammo made in an eastern European country, forget which. I seem to recall it was Berdan primed.

It sold at a good price and I didn't feel obligated to pick up the empties.

I have shot/ purchased the .45 ACP from Cabelas in years past - no complaints, performed just fine - purchasing on sale is even better.

FWIW the herters I’ve shot recently in 9 and .40 in the black box has a “USA” headstamp and is boxer primed.

Herter’s select (black/red box)is quality ammo and a Cabela’s house brand, if you read the back of the box you’ll find manufacturers.

I had some .380acp made by Fiocchi USA and .45acp by Seller&Belliot

The Herter’s in a yellow box is a lesser quality steel cased I think was Tula or Wolf in 9mm

The only Herters I've used is their 2 1/4" 00 Buck. 6 pellets of 00 make it very controllable in a Shockwave. It also feeds 100% in any pump I've tried it in. Great way to have someone who's recoil shy to shoot a 12 ga.

I've shot their 150 and 180 grain SPBT's in my short barreled No4Mk1. Was accurate and reliable. Using the spent brass for my reloads and it's held up well.

Mine is several years old, just looked at the box and it's not made in Eastern Europe as I thought, but rather in Indonesia.

it’s brass cased, but Berdan primed. At least I got that right. lol

Pindad is a military contractor in Indonesia, I remember buying some 7.62x51 (.308) made by them some years ago, good stuff.. Even the .380 Herter's was sealed primers.

It is a generic store brand label based on an old sporting goods chain and catalog operation that is defunct.

Bass-Pro and Cabela's owns the rights to the name so you get ammo from whatever source that bids cheap enough to get their business and the original source probably varies by cartridge.

Academy has a similar private brand, Monarch, and some at least came from Prvi Partisan.

I've only used the shotgun ammo, 410, 20 ga, and 12 ga. It's been fine. The 410 rifled slugs work great in the Saiga. The 2 3/4 7.5 shot 20 ga arent 100% in the Saiga. But that's the extent of my experience with their ammo. I had planned on picking up some the 22 lr today.

Saw in the flyer that came today that starting tomorrow the 500 round packs of Herters 9mm range ammo will sell for $79.97 (limit of 2). 16 cents a round, even before the 5% military discount.

The current Herters is Cabelas store brand. As some have noted different calibers are sourced from different manufacturers and countries.

No personal experience. The brand is viewed unfavorably on a gun deals forum I frequent, which is saying something given the cheap nature of those of us who visit.

I've found when they run a sale they won't give me the military discount on top of the sale price. Same just happened to me at Lowe's.

Hmmm, my Cabelas just gave me the military discount on a sale item yesterday. I didn't buy any of the ammo, since I have been "buying it cheap and stacking it cheap" lately, and have frankly run out of room for anymore until a few good range sessions.

My experience was at a Bass Pro, I figured they would have the same policy.

Perhaps different items have different discount policies?
