Ammo.com is reporting that during an 11 day period beginning Feb. 23rd the United Sates showed a 68% increase with some states like Texas (my state) showing 140% increase and others more than that.

This has me somewhat concerned but not overly concerned.

Since the last fake ammo scare I vowed never to be caught short again. I have more than enough for the guns I shoot and then some. I could use some #4 Buckshot and .32 ACP but I can do without if need be.

Area grocery stores are out of disinfectant like Clorox, some over the counter medications and the canned meats, soup and fruit are pretty picked over. But unlike hurricane preparations there hasn't been a run on bottled water or baby formula. Some lines at gas stations have been reported but I haven't seen that personally. Last week a local liquor store had their semi annual their cost plus a dollar sale for anything on the main floor. So I'm good for at least three months. Priorities you know.

So I was just wondering if any THR members have seen any panic buying where you live?

That's weird. Wonder if they're planning on shooting the virus? I'd love to see their optics lol.

Haven't noticed much panic buying here but I guess the ammo section at scheels was unusually busy yesterday...

That and some lowlife went and bought out all but one (opened) package of my Berrys 158gr. FP bullets  I must have good taste or something.

Hard to guess what will scare the lemmings into a gun-related frenzy anymore, but then..... I too HAVE been that guy in other cases.

I remember when, along with so many other items, the old formula of Rapid Tap was set to be outlawed in California. I bought a case and as anyone who loves that stuff knows..... it goes a LONG way and I still have 6-8 cans.:cuss:

Think I'll buy stock in, or at lest vast quantities of, Hoppes and start a social media rumor that leaving an open container in a room will actually scare COVID-19 into the next county.

I haven’t seen any signs of panic in central Texas. One guy with a mask grocery shopping. Possibly the grocery store was a little busier than normal. Clorox wipes were sold out. Sporting goods stores are not busier than normal imo. Of course Texas doesn’t hardly have any cases of the virus and none in central Texas yet.

I’ve been buying guns, ammo, groceries and cleaning supplies steady for years and I haven’t changed anything yet.:D

about a week ago, stores here in NH were all out of hand sanitizer …

If I’m laid up sick, how is more ammo going to help?
The virus is gonna turn people into zombies! It's all happening... The Horseman of Plaque is finally here!

No for real, funny you say this because I'm actually sick right now, and I'm home alone for a week. Keeping my .357 next to me often.

There are something like 24+ different types of Flu out there. Unless your Doctor does a lab culture they will not know what strain a person has.

But this is a gun forum. I stopped at Cabelas Thursday and brought a large bottle of Hoppe’s #9 Gun Solvent. I don’t really like Hoppe’s that much but that is what they had. I figure I can do a lot of cleaning of guns while quarantined in my home.

I bought a normal, single six/eight-pack of toilet paper in Kroger, about five days ago.
Why?

Photos from long lines in a grocery in LA (CA- Not... Lower Alabama) with overloaded grocery carts and concerned shoppers (rumors about delivery trucks to stores) had me wanting to avoid
the >> possible future need to pile rotting Leaves by the toilet paper rollers.<<

*The clerk at Kroger in Cordova/Memphis TN told me that only 5 packs of lunch meat is the limit per customer. Made me curious about how much anxiety might be spread by simple rumors.

Bought two bricks of .22 LR ammo, to replace what was tested in the new Ruger Mark IV plus the reassembled M&P, but quite frankly, also partly in case prices go up much.

Other than hand sanitizer, I haven't seen or noticed any shortages here in eastern Florida. I'm pretty sure I have a large refill pump around here somewhere, anyway. I can always make more if I decide I need it.

If it does take to gunning down hordes of walking COVID-corpes, I'm pretty set for ammo.

No hand sanitizer to be found in my area. I wasn’t panicking, but I did order 1500 bullets from sns this week.
I’ve only been in panic mode on ammo once. It was probably 12 years or so ago. My buddy told me about a run on ammo and I thought I better get mine while I could. I went straight to a Walmart and saw they were out of almost all pistol ammo. I bought the one and final box of Winchester .38 +P, I believe it was $27. I didn’t need them and still haven’t shot them. I think I keep them just to remind me not to make dumb knee jerk reactions.

Was at the local Cabelas today, and it was actually much less crowded than the usual Saturday afternoon. Certainly not the slightest sign of any spike in ammo buying.

HEB in our area has limited stuff like hand sanitizer to 4 items per person per purchase. I saw a bit of news that toilet paper sales have taken a huge jump recently but on my last HEB trip on Thu I didn't see any signs of low stock.

The only place I buy ammo locally is Academy and I haven't been there in a few months. Nothing in the local news here about ammo sales limits like hand sanitizer yet.

Going to Academy sometime today to buy some .380. Good or bad I'll post what I see.

I work for a large supermarket chain and sales overall are up 25%.

There was a big run on water the first day or 2 of the panic but that has slowed somewhat. I assume customers are overstocked on water right now.

Water on sale is still going quicker than usual.

People statically have more of a chance of being robbed, shot, murdered, die in a car accident, die from the flu, and yet it's a virus that, like most viruses, overwhelming kills the elderly and those with compromised immune systems that has every scared to death. Only about 2% of those who contract it (who are sick and/or elderly) die from it. Everyone else gets over it on their own...

The media has everyone treating this like it's Ebola, Aids, or the plague.... I made a joke about having it, and I actually ended up having a debate with my wife and my son who where convinced that if I did have it, I'd be dead already. I had to actually look up the facts from several credible source to prove to them that this is about as dangerous as having the common flu.

I'll let let everyone else panic buy and act a fool. This is nothing new. Every few years theirs some new virus that the media is pushing to get more money for ads, and that politicians are using for their personal gain. There was a good article that outlined how this is just more of the same hype. The same thing and claims happened with the Bird flu, Swine flu, SARS, and each and every year where there's supposedly a new strain of flu that is immune to vaccines.... People are so gullible...

I went to Cabela's last week and it was pretty empty. I bought some 9mm on sale for a planned range session the next day.

Grocery stores, Walgreens, and Walmart is a different story, however.

My daughter is stationed in Japan and needed hand sanitizer for my three grandkids. She also said they would like some surgical masks if I could find them. So I went to Walgreens and they had 6 bottles left, so I bought all of them. I asked the clerk at Walgreens if they had any surgical masks as well and she informed me that the CDC ordered them to send all of their stock to Seattle area stores. Apparently us peasants on the East side aren't worthy of protection.

My daughter also wanted a certain brand of fry sauce that only Walmart sells, so I held my nose and went there and bought a few bottles. While there, I noticed that certain food stuffs were nearly gone or completely gone. You want those cases of Top Ramen that are like $5 for a case? Completely gone...

How about rice and beans in bulk sizes? Almost gone...

Toilet paper was almost completely wiped out, no pun intended. Canned tuna was almost gone, as was canned fruit. Bottled water was nearly gone as well. I asked an Associate if they had any surgical masks or hand sanitizer and he chuckled. Gone for days. No idea when they will ever get it again.

So I ended up buying some canned goods and the last bulk pack of my preferred TP brand just in case. I have maybe a month's worth of food stocked up. Might get a little extra when I go shopping this week just to be safe.

I will also likely pick up some more reloading supplies at the LGS. My stock is ample for a few months, but I would like a little extra for security. I hate reloading for 9mm and relied upon cheap Federal Brass from Walmart to feed my PCC and one other 9mm I rarely shot. But now that my EDC is 9mm, I need to stock up on stuff for it.

You may want to re-think your approach before you end up wiping your rear with your hand, or bark. The TP shortage is real. I'm not panicking. I'm being smart and making sure I have the things I need that other people are freaking out over.

I just found out a couple of hours ago that Italy just announced a quarantine of 16 provinces. My company has a small field office in one of those provinces, so I had to look at what the quarantine entails...

Health officials are urging residents to remain indoors. Other measures include:

  • Ban on entry to or exit from the affected area.

  • Suspension of demonstrations or gatherings of any type, and of public or private events of any type (including cultural, sporting, recreational, or religious events); suspension of discotheque and nightspot operations.

  • Closure of resorts, swimming pools, and gyms.

  • Closure of museums and other cultural sites.

  • Closure of all schools at all levels and suspension of classes and school activities, including professional and university courses, except distance learning classes and medical or healthcare training.
Yes, it is just a little bit nastier than the flu and not a big deal unless you are over 80 or have a compromised immune system. In fact, I'm pretty sure my girlfriend and I already had it after a trip to Arizona and traveled in the same airport terminal on the same day as the first reported case in Washington state. It was nasty and I missed a week of work and had an aching cough for two weeks.

I'm not the least bit worried of getting it.

I am worried about the actions of those that are terrified of getting it. I would rather like the option of being able to stay in my home and live off of what supplies I've got on hand rather than go out in public and deal with panicked and irrational people in fear for their lives.
