I have this big piece of steel that is a Colt New Service with a 5 inch barrel but I always like to have at least one holster for each of my handguns. Right now, I have none. Given the size of it, a shoulder or OWB type holster is what I am looking for but am failing to find any new ones.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a range holster for this beast?

Right now, I am not interested in a custom rig but might be in the future.

I've found some old ones on Ebay but a lot of them have the trigger portion of the holster cut away which I hate.

El Paso does have a 1917 Revolver flap holster, hmm. Never used one nor had one.

For a basic, no frills type holster for the range maybe something like an Uncle Mike's Sidekick nylon holster. There's one for large frame revolvers with a 5" to 6 1/2" barrel. When my brother was living in Alaska I found him an old British canvas flap holster made for a large frame Webley revolver. Worked great with his Ruger Redhawk .44 Magnum with a 5 1/2" barrel. Either holster might do the trick til you can get something more along the lines of a custom holster built for your New Service.

Simply Rugged will make their Sourdough Pancake for it. (I know, I just fought off a case of the I-want-its for a New Service, so I just checked the other day.)
They have pretty holsters. Thanks, I have saved the link. This is pretty much just a range toy but I like their concealed carry holsters for other firearms.

Thanks bannockburn, the pictures on the Uncle Mikes are a bit unclear for me whether or not they would take a chunk of shooting iron. Glad to have confirmation. Finding quite a few flap holsters so might just go that way until I can get a custom rig for it.

Uncle Mike's Sidekick for 5"-6.5"bbl is Size #3
UM Sidekick is made for medium-large frame revolvers,
I have several and they work well to protect and are snug fit...no quick draw,eh?
You may also consider a Bianchi . Very nice leather, looks custom without the price.
Many Bianchi models, check the #111 style to start.

I owned a couple of these in navy grey. They did work with the New Service. Not surprising since the Commonwealth nations used Colt New Service revolvers chambered in .455 Colt (Webley Mark I smokeless). They were amorphous in shape and would handle just about any large frame DA with a 5" or so barrel.
I once owned an S&W New Century in .455 Colt as well with a longer barrel.

In these cases, I usually drag the gun to a gun show and pester Galco and El Paso for fit.

I got one for a Colt N.S. from Galco that was a nice fit but don't recall which gun it was actually intended for.

Bought another from El Paso by moving through the options for the "Patton" revolver holster.

Both are now gone as I concentrate on S&W these days.

I was lucky and found a simple vintage Heiser on Ebay that's a perfect fit for my New Service .45 Colt 5.5".

Probably something like this Heiser Keystone:

I noticed that this was a very popular style of holster also made by several makers, like Lawrence, Bucheimer, and Hunter, back in the 50s to 70s. Just the ticket for your hunting sidekick.

Thanks all posters so far for the pictures, model names, and manufacturers of the holsters, tells me what to look for when shopping.

Similar but not the same. The snap has the Heiser mark.

I am not familiar with Colt DA revolvers but just for kicks I did a little research. I was looking for comparisons between Colt and S&W frame sizes and in particular Colt New Service Versus S&W N-frame revolvers.

Here is an old THR thread...not too much dimensional info:

Here is an article about Simply Rugged Holsters and the Colt New Service.

I hope something here helps.
