To be fair, it is a shrinking market... and one that they certainly alienated recently. Their golf/running/shoes are likely more profitable than most hunting gear outside of imported clothing.

But they will end up like Sports Authority soon.

The last 2 times I was in Dick's, and this is going back years, was to buy golf clubs for my oldest son who played for his high school team and when I had time between meetings an ran in to one to see if they had 9mm Gold Dot Short Barrel ammo. The man who "helped" us pick out golf clubs insisted we buy a $99 set that included all clubs and a bag. It was a cheap set that may have been fine for a child who was learning but not a high school student playing competitive golf. When I told him we wanted a better set he started mocking me, calling me a rich guy and Mr. Rockefeller. He would not show us other clubs, and we bought them elsewhere.

I asked a kid at the guncounter for the ammo, and he didn't know what it was so I explained it to him. An older employee told him I wanted .380 ammo. I explained it was not .380, but 9mm made specifically for guns with shorter barrels. He would not beleive me and insisted I wanted .380. I left, and haven't been there since.

After their move against the 2nd Amendment, I do not see why any gun owner, hunter, outdoors person would continue to support them by buying from them. Plenty of other options out there. Best way to hurt someone is hurt'em in the pocket book.

I didn't shop there before their virtue signaling and that ensured I never will.
May their decisions lead them down the path of ToysRUS & KMart.

Hunting and shooting is not a big market for them after they went out of their way to alienate gun owners.
So why do they own and continue to operate Field and Stream stores that are focused on hunting and shooting? ;)

My guess is that guns/hunting gear pulled from Dick's stores will be headed to Field and Stream stores (instead of symbolically being destroyed in previous "marketing stunt" when 5 million dollar worth of unsold gun inventory was destroyed last year)

And as long as Dick's owns Field and Stream stores that sells A LOT of guns and hunting gear, they are not fooling anyone, especially most of NRA members and gun owners who decided to boycott Dick's.

So when anti-gun supporters find out Dick's are still selling guns and hunting gear in their Field and Stream stores, they too will boycott Dick's AND Field and Stream stores.

Lose - Lose.

What is Dick's CEO/management thinking?

Okay getting rid of guns makes sense with their anti gun agenda but why the hunting gear? I used to buy hunting clothes, slings, ammo, scopes, rings, cases from them because gander and cabelas was too high in price and Walmart only carries junk. I love the field and stream hunting boots, but every store around me within 50 miles doesn't even sell a damn hunting boot. Getting rid of guns was one thing but when you go as far as boots, knives, gloves, etc. You can shove your company and your agenda. I used to visit the Columbus Ohio field and stream store twice a year cause they had a good selection. Now its all UA preppy people clothes.

I can say that I have never purchased a single thing at Dick's and by the time I was into shooting, they never had what I wanted. I'm that person who wonders how Target stays in business, though, so don't mind me.

I do wonder what Dick's pa would think about all this. I also wonder if Dick is liquidating before being liquidated.

I would like to see them drop firearms and hunting gear from every one of their stores everywhere.

They went out of their way to attack firearms owners. The sooner we are rid of them the better.

Yep...I wrote them off sometime back. Just too many other gun friendly businesses that have much better selections and prices. I can get most things I buy elsewhere for less money.

Dick's is a failing business. Their self-imposed "assault" weapons ban hurt them. I stopped doing business with them as soon as they did that.

I went in one when they first opened. Very poor for my firearm needs. I never went back.
They sure chose the right name for their stores.

Well, we haven't had a dick flogging, er, I mean, Dick's bashing session lately … In my area the Dick's always had a crappy selection and even worse prices. Service associates were non-existent, and it was always evident that the chain made most of its profits off over-priced made in China Nike and Adidas apparel and shoes. I don't know anyone who ever bought a gun in one of these places.
