No range trips for me for awhile

My LGS has closed its range until further notice. No more than 10 persons in the store at any time. They have a guy at the door who controls the count in and out. This is like a bad movie. Fortunately for me I have been 'socially distancing' for a decade. I have outlived most of my friends and family except for my 2 kids and 4 grandchildren. At the end of the day I an ok and happy. OK, checking out and going to see what is new on (free) Amazon Prime movies.

I am still working at getting summer cottages water turned on. Nobody to give me a hand let alone get me sick. I just eat at home or make a sammich instead of on the road at a store. We'll see how bad it gets before I stop this. Evening shooting out on the back 40. Life will be Ok.

If this was a Corvid outbreak we should all be hoarding #6 birdshot. As the heir of a long line of crow hunters I feel I could rise and lead the resistance with a 12 ga Remington Model 31and a 257 Roberts. But instead it’s a virus, so I’ll be teleworking and trying to keep social distancing. Remember, if someone is close enough to touch with a Moisin-Nagant with a fixed bayonet, then they’re too close!

Only one other shooter was at my brother's private gun club rifle range today around 11:30. "Three Brothers Arms", in Stapleton, northeast of Spanish Fort and Fairhope AL (east of Mobile).

He suspected that most club members don't have enough ammo to make frequent trips-or doubt that they can find enough in the near future.

This other shooter had Red Dots (and other devices) on his Czech Skorpion, 10" barrel 'mini AR', and also on his Serbian AK.
I told him that he has such refined, world-class tastes, resembling likely guns in a James Bond movie.

If more people had simply found .22LR guns fun, and had stocked up, most would be able to make frequent trips.

Limitations like shooting the tire on a wood splitter a solid 10 yards left of a 20 yard target?
When we were building my shop we had the backstop finished before the shed was completely done. #3 son was about 11yrs old. He put a hole in the tin about 3 ft above the backstop.that was the VERY FIRST SHOT INTO MY NEW TARGET!
He missed and hit the tin.
Lol

One range closed due to virus concerns. The other shut down due to the real estate agents that masquerade as county commissioners try and enforce their rule that a 200 yard outdoor range should have a roof that is impenetrable.

Times like this I wish for a pellet gun. My neighbors might think I was using the pneumatic nailer which might not go over so well for extended sessions. Taking the time to do some yard maintenance and knife projects. And worry how we'll be without the income for X time. :uhoh: Sold one gun already. :(

I find pellet guns a great way to get some shooting time at home especially now. My range is open so far and is giving $5 off range fee if you bring one roll of toilet paper. No, I'm not joking. They've posted it on their website. They also are struggling to keep ammo on the shelves.

''I feel for the people that don't have that option. Maybe now is a good time to take a break and get into...''

Lots of things to do if you are self - quarantining. Get things organized, clean & oil the smoke poles and polettes, ammo count, magazine rotation. Cut patches for cleaning. My little work bench is wood, fill the divets with wood filler, sand, stain, polish...

Review safety rules.
Inventory w/ pictures & serial numbers for insurance purposes , perhaps?

OK, let's just admit it. Read that instruction manual that came with the gun. You know, the dusty manual LoL

Wait... what? When did they start doing this??

VERY FIRST SHOT INTO MY NEW TARGET!

Mine was with a new to me bow, hadn't shot one in a couple years...string got about 10 inches of arm. Figured that arrow is gone for eternity. Then I heard the "ssssssssss". Great penetration on a 6 ply radial.

That's too funny!
I've had the 'arm of shame' too!

Oh, I can go into the backyard. I even have a nice safe hillside to shoot into. Until the cops show up. Then the fun’s over.

Also, I can only do this once.
Just start coughing and wheezing when the cops show up. Problem solved.

No word if my local indoor range is open or not, but either way I'm trying to do what the government is asking and avoid civilization. But it's really wet in the woods right now. Like get your truck stuck kind of wet. I may go searching for a dry spot this weekend with extreme caution.

Our club has canceled all classes and matches, but remains open. Its outdoors. More crowded than usual today with fathers bringing their sons and daughters since school is canceled. All our shooting stations maintain "social distancing".
