I'm not a huge 40 fan but am considering changing my woods auto HK 45C out for a HK P30L so I can have the same platform as my edc. I run a P30SK and it is my favorite pistol, so I am considering the "same" gun but long slide and 40 instead of 9. So it will be a very much familiar grip to grab and point except the pinky finger will land on grip and not tuck under mag. I'll gain some velocity with the longer barrel and some bullet weight with 40.
I been shooting 45 autos 200gr at 1100.
I figure if I can load 40 to 180gr at 1100 (maybe 1200?) This would be "comparable"
I like the capacity of 14rnds of 40 over the 9 of 45 also.
I have a sweet spot for the 45c but have battled with its grip ergos since day one, and mine has a particularly heavy SA trigger....the combination of the 2 putting me into a nose dive habit I can't train my way out of. Someday I will replace the 45c with an LEM gun.
Right now I'm considering going right for the P30L 40 cal LEM.
Also retention leg holsters are very uncommon for the 45c which has its own shape, not shared with other models.
I see mention of green dot, and wsf powder as possible options. I like the high load as density powders. I currently have no experience loading for 40.
I like the Hornady HAP bullet. I did a little testing and it seems to be real tough.
