I used to have a nice Savage SXS 20ga. 18" one I got from Preacherman on the old THR 15 years back , but a daughter in law has it now .
From top 10ga. Magnum 18 1/2" barreled , big bead sighted Spanish one from the early 80s. Very heavily breached and barreled. I filled the rib between barrels that was exposed when cut with lead. It handles those big 3.5 Buck and slug loads ok , for the few rounds I would and have used it for. It rolled a large feral dog who was tearing into my goats and sheep in the close to house pasture very nicely with 54 #4 buck at 30 yards one day 25 years back. I keep it up high, out of sight and ready for living room defense. :)
Middle is a "little" 12 gauge Baikal Soviet Era beautiful Lupara , with 20" chromed barrels choked imp cylinder and modified ! it shoots buck, slugs and bird shot very well and I know how it patterns ! This gun could tell some stories! I bought it in from Canada because in those days Soviet import guns were banned.I had it from mid 70s and it still stands proud duty in my mancave. Killed a BUNCH of critters and scared off bad guys ! always ready and faithful, I found Col. Cooper kept a very similar one in his bedroom in the Sconce :)
Bottom my beautiful and elegant Pedersoli 10 Ga. SXS percussion gun . Cut down from 32 " to 17" and VERY fun to shoot and hunts brush very well ! I used it during "special season" California Turkey hunts with good success. P1050036.JPG

Are muzzle loading shotguns exempt from the 18" barrel minimum? I honestly don't know. Probably not in Illinois.

According to what I find at ATF.gov muzzleloading shotguns that qualify as antique or reproduction of antique (flintlock, side caplock) are exempt from the 18" barrel minimum.

However, the ATF import restrictions make it clear that muzzleloading shotguns using in-line 209 primer ignition are treated as modern firearms.

State laws may vary.

Put it on a form 1 and make them really cool.
My sawed off has a 14 inch barrel.

I've got a 24" citori upland that i put a pistol grip stock on for truck hunting .....I really like those side bys tho .....might have to get one and do that.

Nice trio of SxS! Always wanted a "sawed off" shotgun to go with my single actions and lever gun; maybe someday!

I took alot of SG courses from Louis Awerbuck and others starting in 80s. Some of the courses were held at LE training ares and had the local Dept.s participating with 14" SGs . I got to do partial courses with an 14" 870 and a short Benelli M1 . I prefer the 18" barrel , they seem to pattern better from those experiences and chunk slugs better at 100 yards. That said a really short SxS with the right grip would be neat, not $200 tax and a long wait neat tho. When I was a kid I had a .410 SG SxS pistol from Belgium I used in exploring a vast Family owned cave, up thru early college years :) Also along the way in the distant past I had a cut down 12 ga Stevens single that I had a vague idea was extra legal. It would put a slug thru a dumpster ! It would embed the opening lever into the web of your hand if not VERY careful , but it was kewl tho under the seat of my first car more than 50 years ago.

savage 20 gauge I bought for turning into a truck gun. my son talked me out of it and then sold it off to someone. Im starting to get frustrated with that but he did give me a colt 38 he traded a 380 for that was a good step towards redemption.

I have a older Fox Savage double barrel cut down from Iirc 30 inch to 20 inches, I was told later that I shouldn’t have...
Oh well that’s my Home Defense

Not trying to hi-jack the thread but can you add a pic? Sounds like an interesting beast.
