Anyone have the Rossi 92 in 357 magnum? I've heard they are nice shooters. Is the cheapest .357 lever gun I can find. And I'm looking at buying one

What are your thoughts?

Lost mine in a divorce but it was a fun gun. Like Rockrivr said, they are decent if you smooth them out a little.

That sucks big time. But yeah. I had a 92 Rossi that I traded for a 30-30 Marlin a few years ago. The 30-30 went in favor of a wad of cash ($350) since it was one of the early Ilion Marlin flops. The kicker was winning an X7VH 22-250 a few weeks later on a $5 raffle ticket. Couldn't ask for better!

I have one and love shooting it. I did or do have a problem with it in that is sometimes will spit another round out of the magazine after I just chambered one. Getting it unstuck in a PITA. I'll get it taken care of one of these days. If I had it to do over again, I would. It's a must have if you have a blackhawk in .357. Just wish I had a place to keep a horse.

Love mine. I guess I won the QA lottery, because mine wasn't rough at all. It has a smoother lever than my Marlin 1894.

I have a 16" stainless. It was good out of the box. I did a Steve's Gunz table top action job and it's great. I didn't care for the factory sights and changed those.

I have a 16” blued. I took the stupid safety off the bolt and replaced it with a Steve’s Gunz replacement plug.
The only issue it had involved the extractor chewing up the rim of the case. Using Steve’s DVD I lightened the extractor tension and it’s much easier on my cases.

I will be honest, I like my 16” 45 Colt version more. Those fat cartridges are fun to load and it’s just a hoot to thwack steel with. But the .357 is cheaper to shoot (And yes, I reload for them both.)

Stay safe.

I cannot speak for the Rossi, but also, I cannot say I have heard anything bad about the Rossi's. I have 357 Magnum lever action guns and they are fun to shoot. I have a 1980's vintage Marlin 1894C and a modern Winchester 1873.

My 20" rossi is a dear little rifle.
Smoother now that she has a couple of thousand rounds through her.

Also have a 24" in 45lc that is fun.

I have a .44 Mag and a 454 Casull that I really like. If I come across a .357 I would not hesitate to get that as well. Both of mine needed a little work to smooth them out, but it wasn’t hard and it was totally worth it!

I have a 16" blued one in .357. It's always a big hit with new shooters, as it's easy to handle, accurate enough, and the recoil is light. The loading gate spring is too stiff, which I may get around to fixing someday, but the action has been fine since new. I like it.

I've got a 16" SS 44MAG and it's my goto deer rifle. Out of the box there trigger was good enough I didn't want to bother with a trigger job. Not amazingly light, but smooth with little creep abs a nice break, perfect for a hunting rifle. Lever had some grit, but smoothed nicely with use. It's wearing a mini red dot currently and I've no complaints in 8 years or so of ownership.

If I find a 454 model, I'm snapping it up! I wouldn't mind a 24" octagon barreled case hardened 357 or 45 though to put a reciever sight on for some oldschool fun.

I have a Rossi M92 in .45 Colt, bought used but new in the box from a dealer at a gun show. It's the version with the 16" barrel and the large loop lever on it. The action was already really slick and smooth when I got it so no need for improvement there. Have found the carbine to be very quick to get on target and nice and light to carry around for awhile. Since I have several single actions in .45 Colt this carbine was the perfect fit to go along with them. Would eventually like to get a .357 version to go along with my Ruger Blackhawk.

I've got one in .357, very fun gun. Changing out the ejector spring, something you can do at home, made a big difference in distance cases were thrown, and also lightened up the action.

Simple mod with big dividends. Just working the action a number of times smooths it out.

My 13 y.o. grandson's favorite gun. I doubt you'll regret buying it.

By the way, the ejector spring replacement is available at your hardware store, inexpensively. Also on Ebay or Amazon. It's a Century C-530.

I bought one earlier this year. It's something that has simmered on the back burner for years. It's the 20" blued gun. I installed a tang sight and a leather butt pad as the length of pull is a bit shorter than I like plus the padding is nice with full house loads. It' pretty accurate with pootey lead loads or full on 357 loads. Of course they shoot to different points of aim (considerably different) and there is a big difference in the amount of recoil between them. I guess I got a good one as I see no need to slick anything up.

Saw one like that some time back only it had some really fine looking color case hardening on the receiver along with a tang sight. It was in .45 Colt and they were asking $450 for it. If I had the money at the time it would have come home with me, it was that nice!

I own a 20" Interarms Rossi .357 saddle ring carbine, it is a slick little levergun. Can't say how it was new, I picked it up used a few years back.

I like it well enough that I'm contemplating another in .44 magnum..............
