With the COVID-19 scare going on, are you out walking more? What stick are you using?

I think that, being 22 years young, carrying a walking stick would make for highly effective social distancing, pandemic or no.
Fortunately, the Americans with Disabilities Act makes it illegal for you to be questioned as to why you use a cane on public transit, or in public buildings. (You can, however, be questioned as to why you need an OPDMD- battery or combustion- powered device.)

Been walking a lot, to go to the store and also into the woods just to get out. Been taking my 4' canvas phenolic jo (with a rubber foot on it), or a hornbeam half-crook cane. The good news I've never got attitude for my sticks at stores despite appearing healthy. The closest is some worker is like "what's with the stick?" and I answer "Oh I walked here from home. That's what the backpack is for." and they totally accept that as an answer.

I even use a stick indoors, for safety--peripheral neuropathy, fall risk.

Oak, hickory, and iron bamboo sticks from Brazos Walking Stick Company.

Good for walking.

Great psychological deterrent. People create distance.

Useful defensive weapon, less than lethal if used properly.

I do love a good canvas micarta stick.

My dad always makes like reaching sticks for his truck. Stand outside the bed and reach stuff. I made one too and its in my truck. Also is funny how it comes in handy. Something rolls under the truck etc.. I do squats. Started doing them last year. No weights. Just squats. I can do them anywhere. Without anything. I've lost weight and brought my A1C down a bunch. I get up and do like 65. Mid day 20 or 30 and at bed 65 or so. Works great. Im 50.

Ahhh, the antisocial distancing measuring rod! Remember gentlemen that the traditional antisocial distance is two sword lengths (roughly 60").
Sounds about right. I was in WM today and they are pushing the social distancing thing inside the store. I over heard one lady getting upset because someone walked within 5 feet of her in an isle.... what can I say? It is nearly impossible not to get within 5 feet of someone inside a store unless there are very few customers.

The only time I carry or use a stick is when I twist my knee which is something that happens to me more often than I care to admit because I turn my body rather than my head and the flex point is the knees. Usually have a trekking pole in the woods these days.

I used to carry a stick when walking the dogs but decided It was easier to pick up a rock and throw it. No wuflu laws here, I walk every day in my neighborhood where there is rarely anyone on foot. I wear ankle weights and every other day I carry a pair of 5 pound dumbbells and do some exercises when the dogs stop to pee. Plan on doing more squats and increasing the weights. We are on voluntary self-quarantine and I am pushing exercise, diet (more veggies), and sleep to build up my resistance.

We got nine inches of snow a few days ago, and it was ten below yesterday morning.

Still walking every other day. It was icy as hell yesterday. Managed to get my 7 miles in though slowly. I almost fell a few times ice skating but my blackthorn kept me vertical. It’s become second nature now.

@hso @JShirley

Gents, there’s a lot fewer folks stick’n it than I thought. I don’t know that there’s any reason to keep this open, so close’er up if you like.

I'm out usually every day for the 2½ miles that are behind my house. That, push-ups and crunches are pretty much it for me, now that my gym is closed. But the 4 or 5 months I spent in hospitals back in 2016 with my wife, didn't hurt me much, and all I could do then was walk around the hospital for a short time. So now I figure I'll be OK, and get right back to it when allowed, and it won't have cost me a lot physically. But yes, it sure sucks to someone that has worked out nonstop for over 30 years.
