Like the title asks , which and why ? I have owned them both and they are 2 great full size pistols. Your thoughts and votes ?

I like Glocks better, but is there any reason why it can't be a Gen4 Glock 21. I've had them all and the Gen4 21 is the best shooter of the bunch, actually I think it's the best shooting .45 out there period.

I chose it because that's then generation that I had before and that I may get again. I dont care for the Gen 4 with the new recoil spring style , i like the simpler single spring.

I'd pick any generation of M&P 45 over a Gen 3 Glock 21. The Gen 4 may make it close, but not the Gen 3.

Hilton Yam on the M&P 45 vs G21. This is pre-M&P 2.0 and pre-Gen 4.

If we were comparing the Glock 21 to the M&P 45, then let’s just stop here and declare the M&P .45 the winner and move on. Superior ergonomics by far, good accuracy, and availability of thumb safety to help transition 1911 shooters make the M&P 45 the clear winner in my opinion. Add a viable and reliable factory 14 round magazine, and you pretty much have the whole package wrapped up with a bow.

This is definitely a win win situation in my opinion and there’s really no wrong answer. I voted Glock for the simple reasons of higher capacity in flush fit mags, better trigger (I don’t like m&p hinge triggers), better aftermarket, less parts, and easier to work on. Also I’m not crazy about manual safeties on striker fired guns so that doesn’t appeal to me. I have G30S that can take the g21 mags as well so it’s a no brainer. But I will say I slightly prefer the ergonomics and grip texture of the m&p M2.0. My main carry right now is a m&p shield 45 M2.0, but that’s a totally different gun all together.

M&P 45.
Can be had with excellent factory night sights. Even stock plain sights are sturdier than factor Glock sights and can be used to rack the slide one-handed in an emergency.
1911-style thumb-safety option for those that desire.
The 2.0 trigger is good, and can be made even better with aftermarket parts.
Grip texture of the 2.0 beats anything Glock has ever put out.
Finally, there's the far superior ergonomics of the M&P, just a more natural fit for most people, feels better in the hand, points so well, easier to rack the slide ... compared to the awkwardness that is the G-21.

Glock has the edge only on magazine capacity.

Very good points on the Glock 21

I had a 1st gen M&P 45. Didn't much care for it, but I've shot some of the 2.0's in 9mm. Smith did it right with the 2.0. I've been a Glock guy for a long time and contemplated letting my G21 go when I bought the Smith. But after having both at the same time decided to let the Smith go instead. Had I tried the 2.0 I might have felt different.

FIFY.....I prefer the ergonomics of the Glock to the M&P, BY FAR..

This is a Camary versus Accord question with no wrong answer.

Another Glock guy here who fully acknowledges the M&P/XD/PPQ/VP/et al lines as absolutely solid choices, and all have some minor pro’s and cons.

I’m pretty invested in the Glock platform at this point, with mags, holsters, mag pouches, spare parts, etc. And they break down to parts so easy....

Glocks just work for me.

OT: If I were just starting out, my answer may be different. I’ve owned the XDm 45, the PPQ 45, and my G21 GEN 4. I still have the Glock, mainly for simplicity. If I was being totally honest, I’d probably go with the XDm lineup. Good shooters

Thanks for the effort, but I do not need my posts "fixed." I say what I mean and mean what I say, calling it like I see it. My opinion is based on a couple decades as as pistol instructor, having seen transition to the Glock 21/23, back to DA/SA and to S&W. Given a choice in initial training, almost all new trainees favor the S&W and initial and semi-annual qual scores are higher with the M&P. Only people who say Glocks fit them better are those that came up exclusively shooting Glocks and simply don't want to change, nor try to.

At the moment I don't own a 45, I have 10mm pistols. I don't like the m&p 45 much. The glock version is better, but I have huge hands and would prefer the non sf version. My personal favorites would be the shield 45 which is a true gem, or a good old HK USP 45 which can also easily be fed 45 super.

Having owned just about everything one time or another, I’ve learned with a small amount of practice with your weapon all the quality made handguns can be shot well and accurately. What matters to me most now is the size/weight/capacity ratio and the aftermarket support and cost of parts like more mags. All things considered then the Glock wins for me hands down. Same basic size and 3 more rounds. Not even a question to me. I’d have a PPQ 45 and do have an XD mod2 45 before having the M&P.

I whole heartedly agree. My current primary is shield 45 with a crimson trace laser guard and it’s fantastic. I also have a usp 45 compact that was carried religiously for like 5 years that still holds a special place in my heart. These might possibly be my favorite 45acp pistols.

This is a tough call. I suspect (without actually knowing, and must admit that I own neither of them) that the M&P would fit my hand better, but both seem to be very good pistols. Pick the one that: (a) you shoot better; and (b) fits your hand better.

ETA: Because I own neither of these, I'm going to forego voting.

I'd probably choose the M&P2.0 over the Gen3 Glock. I do not care for the slick feel of the Gen3's. That said, my Gen4 G21 is the best shooing .45 I've ever had.

Both are great pistols but I am definitely an M&P person. They function just as well as the Glocks but point and feel much better to me.

I know this is a old post and I am sure the OP has chosen, but here is my $0.2 on it. I love the Glock 19 it fits my hand well and the size is good for just about any job. But the 21 grip is huge in my medium-sized hands. I had a gen4 30 and liked it ok but I could never get over the the grip size. The gen4 with no back strap suppose to be like the 30s (slim frame). I was never over excited on the M&P, I had a 45 and traded it off for something else. I thought they were good but just wasn't any love there. Then I tried the M&P 2.0 in 45. Wow what a game changer. I live this thing!

I chose the Glock 21. It’s big, but you get 13+1 rounds in a standard magazine and it’s a super soft shooter. I like the Glock trigger more than the trigger on the M&P as well.

I prefer the 2.0 M&P's so that would be my pick. The only nitpick I'd have is capacity. I like the ergos and grip angle better, and I really like my 9mm M&P's.
