It is one of the pre-war commercial models, I've been told. Not sure I buy that one. I don't think the Japanese people were allowed to possess firearms in the 30s and I cant imagine much of a market elsewhere.

I believe most military officers could purchase their own sidearms so that was possibly the intended market for the Type 94. There was also the notion that some junior officers, like tank commanders or pilots, wanted a smaller pistol to carry but was still chambered for the standard 8mm. round. According to Wikipedia the Nambu Type 14 was officially adopted by the Japanese military and was meant to be used mainly by Army NCOs, though officer's could also purchase it if they wanted to.

I found this photo of a DWM Model 22 7.65mm. pistol along with a Japanese made holster for it. Perhaps it was purchased by a high ranking officer who could afford to go outside the regular military channels to have a foreign built gun which used non-standard ammunition.

You should check out Forgotten Weapons. Ian is of the opinion that the Type 94 is actually a very good handgun for the time. It wouldn't be the first arm of the era to get an undeserved reputation.
I've seen that episode and right you are. Probably the biggest strike against the 94 is the same strike against the Nambu's.... that anemic caliber. The 94s in the pics are in the Rock Island Arsenal Museum, which is currently, understandably, closed to the public. Arsenal Island is closed to all visitors.

My brother has an all original Standard Products M1 Carbine, in mint condition, with the flip rear sight and no bayonet lug. Bought it from some guy who needed quick cash for a house he was buying and really wasn't into M1 Carbines all that much. My brother got an unbelievable deal on the gun and it's probably worth a small fortune nowadays.

I see we share the same fine taste in Hi-Powers, right down to the Pachmayr grips!

This is a great thread and I'd like to thank corpral Agarn for starting it. Just what all of us quarantined folks need. I've done enough reloading, cleaning, and general work around here along with more trips out into the woods to just hike around. Tonight I'm bored so I took a pic of my P-38 collection; all 4 of them. (Some of the younger guys may not get it, or does Uncle Sam still have P-38's ? ). Here they are, all four of 'em: IMG_1864.JPG

Here’s one of my K98 Mausers.
It a post war Iraq contract, Brno manufactured rifle.
If you look close you can see tool markings. I guess they were trying to save money and cut a few corners

Here you can see the Iraqi markings on the barrel and receiver.

I guess that K89 slings were hard to come by in Iraq, and at some point the rear band with the sling loop was modified. Looks like it was done by a five year old with a hammer.

Looks like there was a rear sling swivel added at one time, but later removed.

Anybody notice that the P-38s ( the can opener, not the guns ) are a RIGHT HANDED only device? DISCRIMINATION!!!

It's a communist plot.

You just don’t know how to use one. If left handed hold with thumb down and rotate up with pointer finger.
Impervious, adapt, and overcome.:)
