OK, the bored kid has reclaimed their rock tumbler set. So, having been a bit "spoiled" by having clean brass for a change I am in the market for a case tumbler.
I can't spend a lot so what are the best buys these days?

Franklin armory vibratory and crushed walnut from pet store and a cheap plastic basket with thin slits
Been using this since I started reloading, hasn't let me down yet. I have, however, upgraded the sifter to the Hornady separator, when Amazon goofed and was selling them for $20. Over sifting in a colander, I will say, an actual media separator is worth almost any price.

I moved from the Harbor Freight Dual Tumbler
to the Franklin Arsenal Rotary Tumbler just for the increased volume. 1000 9mm in the FA versus 100 per HF tumbler to stay under the weight limits. Nothing wrong with HF tumbler. Amazon has the FA tumbler now sub $150 which is a good price lately.

I’ve had a Lyman Turbo 1200 since the early 80’s. This summer I accidentally punched a hole in the lid. I ordered a new lid on along with a new bung for the automatic medium empty feature. The new lid is a slotted version. I guess one is suppose to invert the running tumbler over a suitable container.
I also have a Franklin Armory. Cant see much difference in cleaning/polishing ability.

I have the Harbor Freight with steel media I would part with as I have a tumbler & a Sonic cleaner. $75 to your door.

Once toyed with the idea of using an old clothes dryer with bad heating element, but didn't have a proportionate amount of brass to see if it would work.

You jest surely. But on the other hand in my trap shooting days I did place shot shells in a mesh bag run thru a wash cycle and then place in the drier with a bunch of old towels. Cleaned them pretty good. A bit noisy however.

I use the single-drum Harbor Freight rotary rock tumbler with stainless steel media for small batches, and the Frankford Arsenal rotary tumbler for higher volume. Still have a vibratory tumbler with corncob media that gets used primarily to remove lube after resizing. Hard to beat the Harbor Freight's price for wet tumbling.
