I've learned that:
THR is a reasonable place to get firearms related questions answered.
The average THR'er is not an average gun owner. They are at least an enthusiast.
If a great deal is posted on here, the OP absolutely bought a truckload and is trying to justify the purchase
People have the same questions over and over and over again. Whether it's reloading basics, powder for a 223, firearm/barrel break in, cleaning regimen, crimping (or not) and why, carry considerations, caliber discussion, bear defense
with a gun because OC spray is an unacceptable answer, judge my load workup based on this hilariously small amount of information, "Get off my lawn" complaints about _____, the good old days were better, blue and wood vs nitride and polymer, I can't believe people _____, which polymer framed striker fired 9mm, or my personal favorite, "I'm the last person on earth to hear about this thing called an AR-15. Can anybody tell me what's a good one?"...etc.
Finally, some will misquote on purpose to create a zinger, trying to draw a response. It's the internet. Digital ink costs virtually nothing, keyboard commandos abound, Mr and Miss(information) is everywhere, Trolls come out of the woodwork over some keyword, and most people have an opinion and desire to appear knowledgeable, even if it is parroted from someone else. All these kinds of things drive traffic, logins, clicks, viewership, and sponsorship in a digital age that is increasingly fighting for a sliver of your attention.
