I put up the winning bid on Gunbroker for this 1980 Speed Six 357 a few weeks ago and finally took it home today. With all the chaos in the past few weeks it took a while but worth the wait. A while back I found a 3" Speed Six 38 spl and liked it enough to get it's 2.75" 357 counterpart. I think I might try the Tyler T on this one. IMG_0843.JPG IMG_0854.JPG

I had a blue one from about that same time period IIRC. Darn nice guns.

Generally speaking, I don't care for Ruger's, but the Speed/Security-Six series are different animals. Those I like. :)

I agree on the T-grip. Bought my first one for the above mentioned Ruger.

I have a blued one just like that from the same year. In mint condition, too. The factory grips look great but my knuckle got whacked by the trigger guard. Tyler grips on my S&W never felt right to me so I went with what I know works for me: Packmayr Compact rubber grips. Not as pretty but not bad and much for accurate. Feel great too.

I bought this one about 7 or 8 years ago chambered in 38 special:

It shot so far to the right with every type of 38 ammo that was fired in it I decided to let it go and sold it to a coworker who just had to have it.

What I considered very strange was reference elevation 158 grain bullets shot extremely high but 125 were centered vertically but still waaay right.

Very weird.

Fast forward a couple of years and this one chambered in 357 magnum (pictured with my security six) dropped into my lap at a ridiculously low price so I snatched it up.

I didn’t expect much from it accuracy wise and was pleasantly surprised that it shot very near to the POA with just about everything fired in it.

If yours ends up shooting where you're point it, I believe you will enjoy yours.

ATCDoktor, very nice looking revolvers. My NYCPD Speed Six 3" 38 spl shoots very accurately but time will tell how the 2.75" shoots. The ranges are closed around here. Stay safe.

^^^What he said. I have a Speed Six identical to the OP's revolver. Built like a tank, absolutely dependable. I have a grip adapter on mine and it improves the ergonomics for me.

I have a Speed Six that is about identical to yours. I generally am not interested in snub noses, but this one looked so nice and had a good trigger, I bought it. As a result, I decided to sell my 4 inch S&W model 19 and just use RUGER'S 6's for my mid size .357 magnum's. My model 19 had a terrific trigger, but my 4 inch Security Six is just as good and the RUGER'S are stronger in my opinion. Just check out how thick that topstrap is compared to a S&W K-frame.
I like this Speed Six so much and since I added PACHMAYR grips, it shoots so well, I may conceal carry it. Usually, I am a semi-auto guy.

I'm enjoying the photos. What holster do you guys recommend for the 2.75" Speed Six. I've heard any K frame holster will fit but have one that doesn't fit my Speed Six. I'm considering the Simply Rugged sourdough pancake for 2.75" model 10 or should I look for one made for K frame w/adjustable sights to give it more room since the SSix. is a little bigger? Here's a picture of the 1988 3" GS-83(38 spl) NYPD and the 1980 2.75" 357. I hope the 2.75" 357 shoots as accurately as the GS-83. IMG_0862 (2).JPG

I had a Speed Six exactly like your 2.75' barrel version. Always liked to carry it under my field jacket when I was out knocking around in the woods. Very comforting to have along.

I have one from 1983. Paid $245 for mine, its SS.
I carry mine for CCW l. Use IWB holster. Love this handgun.
I put Pachmyer Gripper Grips on mine. Best small barrel revolver out there.

I use a Don Hume 715 for my Six

You have no idea how long I have been trying to complete the trio but speed sixes no one wants to get rid of or they are asking a Kings Ransom.

Speed Six. .357.

A couple NYPD guns. A Police Service Six and an SPNY.

I always thought of Rugers as kind of second tier guns when they first came out. Good, solid but, not a Colt or S&W.

I have changed my mind. They are superb guns.
